If Hillary Clinton wins the presidential race, she will become not only the first woman to lead the United States, but also the first president whose election campaign touched on the topic of UFOs.

She recently appeared on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, in a UFO issue. The presenter reminded Clinton that her husband Bill during his presidency had already tried to get information on UFOs, but nothing came of it. "Well, I'll try again," Hillary retorted. In an interview with the Conway Daily Sun, she stated that she would "go all the way" in her quest to reveal information about contacts with aliens, and this greatly impressed some ufology enthusiasts.

However, many experts who have devoted more than one year of research to the UFO topic are less optimistic.

"She's unlikely to find anything," said Nick Pope, a writer and journalist who has covered UFO issues for the British Department of Defense. Pope led the UK government's UFO research project from 1991 to 1994. As he notes, the American research work in this direction (the "Blue Book" project) was completed in 1969, and the authorities have not received any new data since then.

Hillary's campaign manager was John Podesta, who ran the X-Files fan club while serving in the White House under Bill Clinton in the 1990s. In the preface to one of the books on UFOs, Podesta wrote "It's time to lift the curtain of secrecy" in matters relating to contact with aliens.

Until February last year, Podesta was an adviser to Barack Obama. Leaving the White House, John lamented that no new UFO data had ever been made public. “And finally, my main failure in 2014: materials about the aliens have not been disclosed,” he tweeted.

However, Nick Pope does not understand John Podesta's frustration. “There is no UFO classified material that someone has to disclose. Since the end of the Blue Book, there has been no agency in the United States investigating UFO episodes. And all the information from the Blue Book has long been published and is available in the national archives,”says Pope.

Pope disagrees with Ted Rowe, executive director of the National Aviation Anomaly Reporting Center (Narcap). It is an independent organization that collects reports from pilots and radar operators regarding UFOs. Rowe is convinced the government knows more than it says.

In support of his position, Rowe recalls journalist Leslie Keane making an official request to the government regarding the famous incident in Pennsylvania. Faced with the refusal of government agencies, Keane went to court and won, but he never received any materials - the government declared the documents lost.

“They say they have lost all the files. There may be more such “lost files” than we think,”says Rowe.

Skeptics question not only the existence of the "classified materials" themselves, but also the advisability of the Clinton investigation.

“I don’t know why she needs it. I don’t think that in this way you can get extra votes in the elections. Hillary Clinton makes a great gift to Trump. The eccentric Republican can now say, "I am in favor of job creation and economic renewal, and my opponent seems to be only obsessed with UFOs and aliens," says Nick Pope.

The hype surrounding Hillary Clinton's statements spread throughout the country - even Barack Obama's press secretary had to answer questions about the mysterious Area 51. Josh Ernest said that he was not aware of the president's plans to release information regarding this object.

Area 51 is discussed by ufologists almost more often than UFOs. Enthusiasts are convinced that the wreckage of an alien ship and even their remains are stored on the territory of this secret base. But Nick Pope is always ready to pour a cold shower on romantics:

“I wish there were alien bodies there. The world would be much more interesting if there was an alien spaceship in the hangar of Area 51. But in our age, in the era of Wikileaks, Assange and Snowden, the state could hardly hide such a big awl in a sack."

Ted Rowe, who has studied thousands of UFO reports over the past 16 years, does not believe the "classified materials" will be released in the coming years. In his opinion, the promised Clinton investigation is doomed to failure in advance.

“I don’t know what level of access to classified information is for the president. Perhaps, Hillary Clinton will never know what she is not entitled to,”says Rowe.
