Ashes from the Popocatepetl volcano, which has resumed its activity, covered several districts and suburbs of Mexico City. Residents of the city are forced to wear gauze bandages to protect their eyes, ears and nose. At the same time, the authorities ask them not to clog the sewers.

According to TASS, the Governor of Mexico City, Eruviel Avila Villegas, said that together with the federal government of the country, he is closely monitoring the situation. The official noted that the volcanic eruption does not pose a danger to the townspeople of the huge city.

Eruviel Avila Villegas also said that he asked residents to remove the ashes from the streets, but not to throw them into the sewers, because when combined with water, it hardens and can damage drainage networks.

The height of Popocatepetl, located about 72 kilometers from Mexico City, is 5426 meters and in good weather it is perfectly visible from many parts of the city. The volcano is one of the largest and most active volcanoes in the country. Over the past 500 years, there have been more than 15 of its major eruptions.
