Almost twenty kilometers northeast of the capital of Greece, Athens, is Mount Penteli, and in it is the cave of the same name. Translated into Russian, the name of the cave means "Gate of the End". Maybe because the exact length of the cave is still not known for sure. But the cave itself is of great interest to ufologists, speleologists and other specialists.
The second name of the cave is Daveli. It came from the name of the pirate Christos Davelis, who once hid here with his gang. In the numerous tunnels and corridors of the cave, more than one Davelis gang hid in the middle of the 19th century - many other criminals and pirates also found their refuge here. But since ancient times, local residents and those who visited the cave described strange and inexplicable phenomena that took place here.
Some of them saw luminous balls and human figures composed of shadows and fog. Others met mysterious creatures similar to sheep - these creatures, when approaching them, allegedly disappeared. Even now, tourists note that in the Penteli cave there are places where cameras and photo cameras stop working.
In the 1980s, the government became very interested in the cave - then it was even closed from visits. Inside the cave, they began to work on expanding the tunnels - for this they used explosives and heavy special equipment.
The local government cited the need to build a bunker in the cave as the reasons for such sudden work. But a year later, for some unknown reason, the builders suddenly quit their job and quickly left the cave, leaving some of their large-sized equipment inside the unfinished tunnels. The official reason is damage to the weapon due to the dampness present in the cave.
Since no one ever found out what exactly the government was interested in here, people began to try to find a solution themselves. After the workers who quickly left the construction site, researchers and scientists entered the Penteli cave. They found not only abandoned equipment and unfinished new tunnels, but also a strange cache of drugs for cancer treatment.

Specialists in the paranormal also arrived to explore the area inside and near the cave. Some of them noted that, having gone down into the cave, they get disoriented and lose control of time. There is also evidence that several explorers did not return - probably, among the many tunnels of the cave, they simply could not find their way back.
Another interesting find was the discovered traces of human feet on a cement floor recently laid by builders. These footprints led to a dead-end wall - as if a person approached the wall and stopped, there were no return tracks. Also, scientists recorded the presence of ozone near the entrance to the cave. Wheel tracks were found leading up a rather steep incline.
Since 1997, Greek ufologists have been carefully studying the Penteli cave for two years. It was possible to find out that with a constant microclimate, characteristic of all caves, there are sharp jumps in temperature every day at one in the morning with a difference of ten degrees. In parallel with this, the researchers heard inexplicable strange sounds.
Now tourists can visit only a small part of the Penteli cave, most of it is closed to the public. This is explained by frequent cases of missing people. Local legends complement these stories - according to them, only spiritually pure people who have never sinned could once enter the cave. And some even consider the cave as a gateway to other worlds.
