The Brucemore Mansion is a beautiful structure in the style of Queen Anne. During its existence, the owners of the mansion were only two families, both very caring and thrifty. The first owners of the mansion were Thomas and Caroline Sinclair, who arrived in Cedar Rapids in 1871. The second owners were business entrepreneur Georg Douglas, his wife Ireni and their three daughters in 1906. Having moved into the mansion, they developed a plan to improve the house, turning it into their own family mansion. During the entire period of residence from 1906-1925, the house was thoroughly re-planned and improved.

Then, at the turn of the century, as is known for certain, “something” appeared in their house, which could be called a “restless spirit” or a ghost.

And it was at this time that the Douglas family sent a request to the University of Chicago to send scientists to conduct research in their home of a violent activity that defies any explanation.

The library was named the concentration of paranormal activity, where moans were often heard, and the presence of an outsider was felt. Various objects moved around the library without outside interference, laughter was heard, but the place where it came from was not realistic to establish.

It is impossible to explain where and when these ghosts settled in the Brucemore mansion. Perhaps they came about when the Douglas family began their extensive redevelopment and additional construction in 1905, the ghost was awakened and activated, receiving energy from one of the daughters of the owners of the house, who was in her early teens at the time. There are many unexplained questions in this story. What kind of ghost or ghost has settled in the mansion? Why did the library become a place of concentration of paranormal phenomena, maybe the ghost loved to read during his lifetime? Whose ghost is disturbing the guests and inhabitants of the house?
