One of the busiest places in Russia, where UFOs appeared most often, can be considered the vicinity of Borisoglebsk, Voronezh region.
There, between 1974 and 1989, hundreds of UFO sightings were recorded, most often in the form of marks on the radar screen.
In the 1980s, several specially created commissions were involved in this phenomenon, which had experience in the study of anomalous aerospace phenomena. They noted that the reliability of the observations is very high and it is impossible to say that all the "eyewitnesses" are lying.
On August 9, 1974, at 4 a.m., near the Povorino airfield, technical personnel serving training flights on military aircraft (about 30 people in total) observed a flight from north-west to north-east with a course of 120 degrees of an unknown spherical object, which left a blue - green footprint. The object was not observed on radars. The trail from the object disappeared only an hour after the flight.
A month later, on September 9, 1974, at 4:10 pm, an object in the form of a black cloud hanging motionless was visually observed from the ground by eyewitnesses from the ground above the same airfield. At the same time, two flares appeared on airfield radar stations with a circular view, very reminiscent of marks from aircraft (and there were no aircraft at the moment in the air).
It was found that the observed object is located at an altitude of about 7000 m. In the area adjacent to the airfield, strong radio interference was recorded in the medium and long wave ranges, telephone communication was poorly functioning (strong interference was heard in the receiver). Some short-term noises were also noted in the VHF range.
Given the unusual nature of what is happening, with the permission of the flight director, an aircraft with a crew of two pilots was sent to intercept the cloud object. The crew gained an altitude of about 4500 m, the clouds remained below, and the horizon was clearly visible. However, the black object cloud was much higher.
Its lower edge was observed at an altitude of 6800 m, and the upper one - 7200 m. The shape of the cloud-object resembled an irregular ellipse, stretching for a kilometer and a half in length. Above the cloud, only the clear sky was visible.

Not noticing nothing dangerous, the crew turned the plane around and put it into a dive, intending to "break through" the cloud from top to bottom from a height of 7500 m.
As soon as the plane "entered" the cloud, a wild siren howled in the pilots' headsets, the sound power of which exceeded the pain threshold. In addition, a banner "dangerous height" lit up, and the plane was shaken by a monstrous "bumpiness".
The pilots were forced to de-energize the car, and only with great efforts they managed to take the plane out of the cloud. When the aircraft left the cloud, the turbulence stopped immediately.
After turning on the power supply, all systems of the aircraft started working normally. Upon completion of the flight, the specialists did not find any deviations in the operation of the onboard systems.
The cloud, meanwhile, continued to hang over the airfield for about 3.5 hours, and then in the thickening twilight it did not become visible at all. The next morning, the sky was absolutely clear.
Another incident occurred on January 23, 1980. In the Borisoglebsk area, military pilots for almost 35 minutes - from 20:00. 05 minutes up to 20 hours. 40 minutes - a luminous object was observed in the air, which maneuvered around the airfield. The object's speed was comparable to that of an aircraft and was constantly changing. The maximum altitude of its flight was about 2000 m.
No interference was noted to the radio reception, although the planes passed from the object at a confidential close distance: only 200-300 m. The object was also not observed by the centimeter-range radars.
Finally, on June 9, 1983, in the vicinity of the Povorino airfield, for almost a day, most ground radar stations of all ranges observed a mark very reminiscent of the "flashing" on the radar screens from the target, which was constantly maneuvering in azimuth and altitude.
To find out the essence of what was happening, fighters rose twice, but in both cases the aircraft crews did not see anything, although, according to radars, they were at a distance of several hundred meters from an unknown object.
Here only some cases of UFO fixation with the help of radar stations are considered, in fact there were much more of them.
Colonel A. A. Plaksin worked for 15 years in a military laboratory studying UFOs. He has a large archive of UFO sightings in the Borisoglebsk area.
“It is also important to note that the unknown objects, judging by their marks on the radar screens, were able to maneuver in a wide range of heights (from 0 to 20 km) and speeds (from 0 to 600 km / h),” Plaksin writes. - When moving away from the target locator (this is how the military perceived them; for them, each mark on the screen is a potential target until the other is proven) maneuvered to the full range of the radar station (up to 200-250 km), but more often they appeared and disappeared within the boundaries of the flight area, no more than a hundred kilometers from the Povorino airfield …"
The most, perhaps, mysterious is the size of objects. Observers have seen, apparently, UFOs of all shapes and sizes - from a tennis ball to two hundred meters in length.
What was it all the same?
Attempts to explain the observers' data have led military analysts to several conclusions.
Firstly, there is a version that as a result of natural geophysical processes characteristic of this particular region, stable plasma formations, like ball lightning, invisible during the day and glowing at night, can appear in the earth's atmosphere. Such formations can be of different density and have an unequal glow intensity.
Secondly, experts have long known about the existence of natural passive interference, in particular, interference-generating reflections from the so-called "angels" that affect the operation of radar stations.
Radar experts call flocks of birds, insect clusters, turbulent inhomogeneities of the troposphere "angels". Marks from "angels" on radar screens practically do not differ in shape from the marks of real objects, making it difficult to detect and guide aircraft.
The number of "angels" rises in the morning. In the period from November to February (the winds intensify at this time, but there are much less flocks of birds, and there are no insects at all), the observation area of the "angels" decreases, but does not completely disappear.
However, not all cases of UFO sightings in Borisoglebsk can be considered "angels". There are probably other reasons for such persistent radar anomalies in the region. But they are still unknown to us.
It was noted not only by our researchers, but also by foreign ones, that in some cases, when people were close to the observed object, they had a feeling of difficulty in movement. Some could not move at all, in any case they could not get closer to the object, as if an invisible barrier interfered.
Sometimes the impressions of people observing an incomprehensible phenomenon, being a few meters or tens of meters from each other, diverged strikingly. They contradicted each other so much in describing the shape, size, illumination (or glow) of an object, its height, speed and direction of movement that analysts had another hypothesis: do these phenomena affect the psyche of people?
“We believe that we have managed to unravel the mystery of many anomalies,” A. A. Plaksin. - About 70% we explain by natural causes: ball lightning, auroras of unusual shapes, the glow of astronomical objects (for example, Venus), solar reflections, false suns and moons, as well as coronal mass ejections from the Sun that reached the Earth and caused disturbances, perceived by both devices and human senses.
Another 20% is accounted for by technogenic factors - for example, testing of various equipment. With a reasonable degree of certainty, we established a connection between such factors and anomalous aerospace phenomena. True, it was not always possible to describe and explain the mechanism of connection between them: too complex and contradictory conditions influenced the occurrence of anomalies - geophysical and geomagnetic, meteorological, optical …"
But the most difficult thing is the remaining 10% - several hundred messages, which dealt with natural phenomena unknown to science. There are two points of view explaining their presence. According to one, they can be attributed to one or another already known group, there are simply not enough facts to confidently do this. The second point of view indicates that there are still phenomena in nature about which science knows nothing.
