The ancient Roman road in Thessaloniki is located in the center of the modern city. It was built in the 4th century AD and is 7.5 meters wide. It was discovered during the construction of the subway. Surprisingly, its branches coincide with the layout of modern streets.
Assess the level of the modern road and the ancient one. The cultural layers did not spare the ancient cities.
Two thousand years ago, the road was the main transport artery of the city. It was paved with marble slabs. On some of the slabs, markings for children's games have been preserved, as well as traces of carts. In addition, the researchers found fragments of various instruments and lamps, as well as the bases of marble columns.
Soil with inclusions of stones. Mudflow or buried city from a volcanic eruption?

Archaeologists have discovered an ancient structure in the center of Tula
During the work on the Cross Exaltation Square, at the very beginning of the street. Metalists (opposite the bank building) workers stumbled upon an ancient structure. Archaeologists began to survey the site.
Among the remains of a wooden structure, remains of stove tiles, pottery, cutlery and other household items of the ancient inhabitants of Tula were found. Also, a group of Lipetsk archaeologists discovered ancient cellars underground (pictured). According to one of the versions, the discovered complex of buildings could well be part of a shopping arcade.
This is not a listed building. This is evidenced by the black humus layer around the masonry layers. And the cultural layers themselves (listed in the video). There are no homogeneous clay masses. He gave as an example that not everything found underground can be related to this topic.
But here, in Tula, during the construction of the road, they discovered something else ancient:
In the Proletarsky district of Tula next to new buildings on the street. Khvorostukhin will have a new road. The highway will connect st. Bondarenko and st. Kirov.
Ancient masonry under layers of clay.
More than 160 ancient objects, 400 individual and more than a thousand mass finds have already been found.

Dust storms in the USA and Canada 1930-1936
As an analogy to the process that led to the entry of old buildings:

Confirmation to the version of powerful dust storms. Black layers can be traced even in the Arctic ice:
And judging by this video - the first persons are aware of the events that happened earlier.
Cold snaps in historical time. It is possible that they are associated with powerful volcanic eruptions, large-scale dust storms, or something else.

Double-built house
Many people doubt that the ancient, destroyed houses, buried under the ground, clay, could in our time be used as foundations for the construction of multi-storey buildings. Here's a good example:
In Moscow, at 23 Vishnyakovsky lane, there is an amazing house. At first glance - nothing special, a typical Stalinist, perhaps a little higher than usual. But in fact, this "Stalin" is one third of the Lukutins' real estate, built in the 18th century! The building was added with an additional storey in 1912, and two more in the 1930s.
But the builders decided not to stop there, and in the late 80s they added three more with a sweeping gesture. And since at the same time, according to the standards, the building already required an elevator, its equipment was placed … right, on an additional technical floor. In total, in two hundred years, the three floors of the original estate were "dispersed" to nine and a half. Most likely, this is the only residential building in Moscow that has constantly grown in height from the year before last until the end of the last century. But what surprises me most is how solid the original estate turned out to be.
So, many Stalinkas can also be like this - erected on the originally built mansions of the 18th century.

Buried Moscow. Church of All Saints on Kulishki. China town
Mentioned in Russian chronicles under the year 1365. The church was completely rebuilt in stone in 1488 and then again in the Moscow Baroque style in 1687-1689.
Glazing process.
Commentary by Doctor of Geology and Mathematics, Professor of the Department of Engineering Geology, RGGRU E. M. Pashkin for the II stage of the restoration work of the Church of All Saints on Kulishki:
For almost three centuries, the first floor of the monument was located below the existing earth's surface in constant interaction with soils, groundwater, dynamic loads, freezing, moisture, etc. The regime is extremely unfavorable, moreover, it touched that part of the lower tier of the building, which is generally not intended to interact with the ground.
In the process of carrying out the work of the first stage, when summing up new foundations in the walls above the foundations, channels of circular cross-section were identified. These canals were formed from rotted timber structures inserted during the construction process. A peaty soil has now formed in them, which has a very high humidity, reaching almost 300% (!).

Here is the official explanation for this painting of the buried temple. But my opinion is nonsense and stretching of facts for ordinary people to explain the picture. The temple was covered with clay (perhaps at first by dust storms), and no one dug it out.
How can reenactors say information about soil subsidence and erosion and not ask themselves the question: how?
The opinion of the restorers is that this structure and others, sank into the ground, sagged. But why didn't the walls crack? There will be no uniform drawdown. Why this is impossible - understood in the previous parts
And here they say that the temple was brought in by geological processes.
