Researchers intend to obtain atoms and molecules of antimatter in seven years. Boris Sharkov, the director of the FAIR accelerator under construction in Germany, informed about this.

The leader said that by 2023 such an opportunity will appear. In a scientific project, antimatter is not only accelerated to enormous speeds, but can also be frozen and stored in specific traps, where it is possible to generate the smallest particles of antimatter.

The FAIR device will reach its maximum capacity in less than 10 years. The complex will allow solving many research problems, including the issue of modeling the conditions for the creation of heavy chemical elements during supernova explosions. There will be an opportunity to deal with some other scientific problems. Fifteen states, including the Russian Federation, are taking part in such a project.

FAIR will be the largest particle accelerator ever. The cost of this scientific development reaches one billion euros.
