Scientists at the Universities of Kent and Edinburgh (Great Britain) have found that the famous mysterious cave paintings in Lascaux (France), created more than 17 thousand years ago, were a way to capture a catastrophic event. This is reported by Science Alert.
Researchers analyzed ancient drawings of animals around the world, including those found at the Gebekli Tepe megalithic structure and in the ruins of the Chatal Huyuk settlement (Turkey), as well as in caves in the commune of Montignac (southwestern France).
According to scientists, the rock paintings of scorpions, bulls and lions actually represent constellations, they were used to record important events.
One of the scenes in the Lascaux cave, located in the "mine" zone, is a depiction of a falling human figure, probably a hunter, who mortally wounded a bison. Under the hunter there is a bird that looks like a duck, and next to it is the figure of a rhinoceros, head directed to the left, as if the animal is running away. A horse's head is depicted on another section of the wall.
Scientists believe that the wounded bison is the constellation of Capricorn on the day of the summer solstice, and the duck is the constellation of Libra during the vernal equinox. Other animals can be identified with Leo and Taurus. The location of the figures indicates approximately 15150 BC. Around this time, a global climate change was taking place, which could be caused by the collision of a comet with the Earth.
