Chinese astronomers said they first caught an electromagnetic wave launched more than a thousand years ago.
Scientists from China said that with the help of the recently commissioned world's largest spherical telescope, they were able to achieve the first results.
This telescope, which is about 500 meters in area, was built so that scientists can study galaxies and search for aliens and signs of extraterrestrial life.
Astronomer Queen Lee noted that a huge Chinese structure first caught a signal from a distant star - an electromagnetic wave launched 1.3 thousand years ago. Using the data obtained, the researchers plan to first of all set up the telescope, since it was commissioned about a month ago.
- We are very pleased with this result. Now we can accurately determine the location of space objects, - said astronomer Queen Lee.
It should be noted that in addition to its enormous size, the Chinese telescope is also the most sensitive radio telescope in history, as it is able to pick up radio signals from a distance of over a thousand light years.
Work on the construction of the 500-meter FAST radio telescope was completed in China in early July. About one billion 200 million yuan was allocated for its creation.
