Scientists foretell the collision of a giant gas cloud with our home galaxy, the Milky Way.

This is a gas cloud known to astronomers since 1963. Today scientists from the American Space Agency NASA say with almost certainty that it will collide with our galaxy. And this should happen in 30 million years.

In the scientific world, this object is known as the "Smith Cloud". The mass of this giant cloud is several million times the mass of our Sun. The cloud measures 11,000 x 2,500 light years. Such dimensions make it easy to compare it with a dwarf galaxy. And the most interesting thing is that it has long headed for our Milky Way galaxy.

The Smith cloud is composed primarily of hydrogen. At this stage, the cloud is about 8000 light-years from the Milky Way. According to scientists, at the moment the cloud collides with our galaxy, it will completely cease to exist. Some of its material will pass to our galaxy, while the rest of the gas will scatter in intergalactic space.
