The currently operating Green Bank radio telescope with a parabolic antenna with a diameter of 100 meters was commissioned in 2000 and is actively used in deep space research. But he had a predecessor who started working back in the 1960s. One extremely strange story is connected with him.

A brief history of the predecessor

In the late 1960s, a new radio telescope with an antenna diameter of 90 meters was commissioned at the Green Bank National Radio Astronomy Observatory in West Virginia. It was intended primarily for astrophysical research, but NASA and the military also had their own views on it. It was also planned to use it within the Ozma project (one of the first SETI experiments) to search for signals from extraterrestrial civilizations. The huge structure worked regularly for more than a quarter of a century, until it managed to collapse on one quiet and windless day.

This accident looked frankly strange, and a commission of inquiry arrived at the scene. She, however, failed to find the apparent causes of the accident, and therefore everything was traditionally attributed to "fatigue of aluminum structures", although similar structures in the United States and other countries often developed much longer service lives. The director of the observatory, after reading the conclusions of the commission, made a rather strange statement in the press:

- Today the causes of the disaster seem to us even more mysterious than at the moment of the destruction of the radio telescope!

Jim and John in search of truth

Time passed, and already in the new millennium in the United States a small edition of a brochure by physicist Stephen Bruce was published, on the pages of which the results of the investigation of that long-standing accident look completely different. Bruce recounts how two young astrophysicists, whom he probably tentatively calls Jim and John, discovered a surprising phenomenon in the late 1980s. In their free time from the main work, mainly during the periods of maintenance or repair of the radio telescope, they listened to the air and once unexpectedly received some strange radio signals. They came from the moon and looked like computer texts. They could not be deciphered. Jim and John were convinced that the signals were artificial. Thanks to the large size of the antenna, they were able to determine the exact location of the signal source on the lunar surface.

Young astrophysicists announced that they had detected the work of Russian automatic devices on our natural satellite. Russian ufologist Vladimir Azhazha, who has studied this story, recalls on this occasion that the lunar program was not officially closed in the Soviet Union. From the cosmodrome in Plesetsk, rockets regularly took off, launching mysterious vehicles into orbit. Officially, it was reported about the launches of satellites of the "Cosmos" series, allegedly in the interests of studying outer space. American radars have repeatedly spotted unknown spaceships flying to the Moon at a second cosmic speed (11.2 kilometers per second). The last such incident took place in 1985. These circumstances were often interpreted as evidence that the USSR was carrying out secret activities on the moon.

Jim and John shared their thoughts with their supervisor, Professor Hall. He found it necessary to report what he heard to the senator from his state. Hall made an agreement with him and went to the meeting, taking all the materials with him, including the recordings of the lunar signals. However, the professor did not make it to the meeting place - the car had an accident, turned over and burned down. The materials died in the fire. Jim and John, of course, assumed that the accident had been set up by KGB agents. And just a few days after the death of Professor Hall for unknown reasons, the antenna of the radio telescope in Green Bank collapsed.

When analyzing the fragments of the antenna, it was possible to find out that instant heating of structural materials led to its destruction. Such heating could only be done with a laser weapon. Therefore, a rather dubious and even provocative version appeared that after the Americans intercepted mysterious signals from the Moon, the Russians destroyed the antenna with a high-power laser from their military satellite. Meanwhile, the Pentagon did not confirm the fact that the Russians were using laser space weapons, as well as the passage of Soviet military satellites over the Green Bank. The American military, perhaps not wanting to publish their own point of view on what happened, insisted on the version of the negligence of the service personnel.

Ghosts "Alternative 3"

Vladimir Azhazha in his book "Under the Cap of a Different Mind" writes about the strange rumors circulating in the West about secret flights to the Moon allegedly made by Soviet cosmonauts, which have not yet been confirmed or denied, but it is possible that Jim and John have touched even more mysterious spheres. We can talk, in particular, about the top-secret program "Alternative 3" for the colonization of the Moon and Mars, which, allegedly, since the early 1960s, the governments of the leading powers have been carrying out in secret from their peoples. Allegedly, back in 1962, a joint Soviet-American expedition landed on Mars, and allegedly there is a video (?) That captured the laying of a "furrow" on the surface of the Red Planet against the backdrop of jubilant Russians and Americans.

What is the purpose of this colonization? Representatives of the world political elite at one time, they say, came to the conclusion that the process of overpopulation of our planet has become irreversible and it is doomed to death due to environmental pollution. As a solution to the problem, it was proposed either to build an extensive network of bunkers in which mankind could survive until the surface of the Earth is unsuitable for life, or to start looking for a haven on the Moon and Mars.

English television broadcasters made a film about Alternative 3 in the late 1970s that was considered a hoax. And then one of them - Christopher Miles - wrote an equally contrived book based on the movie. He also owns a cryptic remark: "The facts stated in the film and the book are true, and the lies that are present there are not true." Leslie Watkins, who helped Miles write this book, said no less intriguing things: “For some time after the publication of Alternative 3, I had every reason to assume that my home phone was being tapped, and my acquaintances who were versed in such matters were convinced: some intelligence agencies thought I knew too much. The book is fiction based on facts. But now I feel that I have accidentally come very close to the truth, which someone does not want to voice."

Ufologist and conspiracy theorist Jim Keith, analyzing the work of Miles and his colleagues on Alternative 3, noted that among the European scientists, physicists and engineers who were involved in the Reagan Strategic Defense Initiative, there was an unusually high rate of suicide and death under mysterious circumstances. The dead and disappeared without a trace, scientists and engineers, according to Keith, were too many to be considered mere coincidences. Meanwhile, "Alternative 3", among other things, provided for the secret involvement of scientists in the colonization of the Moon and Mars.

So the next question arises: did the very same Jim and John detect the operation of communications equipment at secret bases on the moon, deployed there as part of the Alternative 3 program? In this case, their scientific advisor could have been eliminated by the American special services, and the Americans would have had much more opportunities than the KGB with the help of the same laser impact on the radio telescope on their own territory.
