Echo of the Planet interview with the English researcher, founder of the world's largest crop circle Center Lucy Pringle.
Lucy, how long have you been researching crop patterns and what prompted you to do this?
“Overall, I've been researching this amazing anomaly for over 20 years. I was seriously carried away by such an unusual topic after the first time I myself saw such a strange "pattern" of crumpled ears. It is one thing to judge this phenomenon from photographs and someone's stories, and quite another to face it personally. I then realized that this phenomenon deserves the closest attention. One of my acquaintances, who was very ill, also piqued my interest. After spending some time inside the circle, she told me about her impressions and how she then changed her state of health.
It just so happens that in the UK, "field drawings" appear much more often than anywhere else in the world. In this sense, I was just lucky, and I can't complain about the lack of "material": I have so much "evidence" that I have to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week! In addition, I travel a lot and have the opportunity to photograph circles in different countries. I regularly receive reports that bizarre formations are found in Japan, USA, Australia, Israel, Africa, Bulgaria, France, Canada, Spain …
As far as I know, in Russia, enthusiasts are also looking for circles - and find them. By the way, at the end of the summer I am going to visit Russia, I was offered to hold an exhibition of photographs from my archive. Over the years, I have collected a truly grandiose photo library of images, many of them are presented on my website www.lucypringle.co.uk Unusual "drawings", the structure of which, by the way, becomes more intricate from year to year, appear not only among cereals. They are found in potato and sugarcane fields, among grass and heather, in snow and sand, even in orchards. In addition, my research center owns the world's largest evidence base of people who have encountered various manifestations of the influence of mysterious circles. We already have over 700 such reports at our disposal.
It is believed that crop circles are an anomaly of recent times. Is it really?
- Of course not. A lot of information has been preserved confirming that this phenomenon occurred much earlier. For example, I have descriptions of crop circles found in Ireland in the 20-30s of the last century. In general, many people told me how in childhood they played among such circles - both in the 40s and in the 50s. According to their recollections, no one considered these images to be anything unusual. Yes, the owners of the crops, of course, drove the children, but it never occurred to anyone to go somewhere, to study something. The circles were treated as something familiar and inevitable. And people also believed that if such a mark appeared on the field, wait for dashing times.
Researchers believe that the earliest depiction of a circle on a field is the famous engraving "Devil with a scythe" dated 1687. This ancient painting shows ears of corn laid in an oval shape. According to an old legend, once the farmer refused to pay the mow the necessary amount for his work and dropped the following phrase: "Better let the devil take this oats!" All night, some lights flashed over the field, unusual sounds were heard, and the next morning the man could not believe his eyes: part of the crop was mowed and carefully rammed! Actually, lights and specific noise today accompany the appearance of circles. If your house is located near the field and one night it seems to you that something suspicious is happening outside, rest assured - a surprise awaits you at dawn. True, no one has yet been able to see who is creating these circles.

That is, over the years of studying this phenomenon, you still have not come close to solving it?
- Quite right. I don’t know who does it, I don’t know why it does it. I can only, like everyone else, put forward hypotheses. Assumptions can be very different, but one thing is clear: there are a lot of circles, in the creation of which people are definitely not involved. It's just out of the question. In Great Britain, for example, circles that can be called "authentic" always appear in places where geophysical and energy anomalies associated with the movement of tectonic plates are recorded. When this shift occurs, energy is released and electromagnetic fields are generated. In the "circular" zones, an increase in gamma radiation is invariably observed.

Other analyzes carried out have shown that water that has been in the circle improves its beneficial properties. There are other important indicators, judging by which sham, that is, truly man-made, "images" can be distinguished from real ones. For example, the seeds of those cereals that are inside the "pattern" contain 30-40 times more proteins than in the ears growing outside the formation. You can't fake that! In general, crop circles are of interest to researchers in various fields: medicine, mathematics, geometry, engineering, music, astrology, sacred symbolism … This "complexity" suggests that a certain higher mind was involved in their creation. But we cannot say more concretely yet.
And yet many are convinced that all this is the work of jokers who have a super-powerful lawn mower …
- I will not deny: among the abundance of mysterious "drawings", of course, there are "fake" ones. But, as a rule, it is not difficult for specialists to quickly understand the origin of such. Even the most talented joker will not be able to deceive the instruments with which various measurements are taken. In addition, people always leave some traces of their presence. And think for yourself: how can a person be so filigree to mow ears of corn on such a vast area and tamp everything as if a huge heavy press was imposed on top? There is always a very clear line between folded and untouched ears. Moreover, the cereals do not break at the same time - they are simply neatly bent. Do not forget about the influence of circles on the operation of technology and the well-being of people and animals. No, no, I repeat once again, the "fake" can always be distinguished from the "original".

- The syndrome of "broken camera" or "camera not turning on" is extremely common. Everyone who studies crop circles has encountered this. How many times have my equipment failed myself! Now the mobile does not work, then the camera, then the radio. And my friends, after visiting the circle, once stopped working their bank card and the electronic key to a hotel room. As for the influence of circles on human health, this is a separate and very important topic. In my research, I just concentrate on this aspect.
The fact that circles have an effect on the body is undeniable. It can be either positive or negative. Over the years that I have studied the patterns in the fields, I myself have repeatedly encountered this effect. Acute headache, severe nausea, metallic taste in the mouth, sudden hunger, disorientation, anxiety, fear, comprehensive euphoria - it seems to me that I have already experienced the whole range of sensations! I also had cases of healing.
In general, even people suffering from serious ailments can feel relief after being in a circle. So, for example, my friend, who suffers from systemic scleroderma - this rare disease affects the skin, once spent several hours in a circle, and then found that she could lie on her back without problems. For the first time in 15 years! After analyzing a lot of evidence, I came to the conclusion that different people are influenced by circles in different ways. One person can get rid of neck or shoulder pain that has plagued him for years after an injury, while another will develop pressure surges.
However, it is difficult to judge the duration of the effects so far: it can be short-lived, or it can last for months. Well, someone does not feel anything at all, everything is individual.
What I'm most concerned with at this stage is the relationship between attending circles and the course of Parkinson's disease. I am very scrupulous in my research on this topic. The fact is that a person close to me lives with such a diagnosis. Once he managed to visit one of the circles, after which he spent the whole day without trembling and shaking, which are typical for patients with Parkinson's disease. It is my duty to find out if circles can really help combat this disease that plagues thousands of people around the world.
Lucy, if you summarize what you said, it turns out that the data obtained from the study of crop circles can be called sensational. Why, in your opinion, isn’t it regularly trumpeted in the world press, isn’t it reported on the leading TV channels, and the program cycles are not devoted to it? Only occasionally does one come across some fragmentary information
- This is a question, and what another! I will give you an example. Recently I was invited to a program on the National Geographic channel. I think no one will argue with the fact that this is a very famous, respected and influential media outlet. So, I was promised that our conversation will form the basis of a serious program on the topic of circles. For several hours I talked in front of the camera about the results of the research, gave numbers, showed pictures. As a result, something about a minute came into the program from this, and the conclusion that was announced was that the crop circles were a complete hoax. What these people have done is simply called deception.
Understand this thing: I am not the only one collecting information, specialists from different countries, including many eminent scientists, help me. Most of them act anonymously, they are afraid to tarnish their reputation with statements that do not fit into the generally accepted framework. And I, as they say, have nothing to lose, I have long been accustomed to being called a freak. In fact, the one who himself saw what was being discussed and felt the influence of the circles on himself, perfectly understands that all this is far from delirium.
Of course, I'm incredibly interested in what lies behind such behavior of popular media. Most likely, they simply cannot afford to tell the truth about the phenomenon of circles. Probably, the government has imposed a ban on this. But why? Afraid of general panic? So, near each circle on the field there is always a crowd of curious people, and they are not at all scared. On the contrary, people want to know the truth. In general, I don't know what's going on. And I just quietly continue to do my job. I hope that your journal will write everything as it is.
