On different continents, scientists find giant ancient images of animals, people, and geometric shapes. For what purpose were they created? There are many answers to this question, sometimes the most fantastic. However, no one knows about the true meaning of the mysterious drawings.

It seems that the most prolific ancient artists were the Indians - the Atacama Desert on the Pacific Ocean in northern Chile is replete with such pictures. The most interesting of these are the geoglyphs on the Unitas Hill between the towns of Tarapacai Guara. There, for example, you can see a hundred-meter figure of a sorcerer with a hexagonal head topped with a semblance of a crown with four feathers.

Communication with the Sun and possession of secret knowledge symbolize 8 parallel lines from the temples and cheeks, an ax in the left hand and a musical instrument in the right. On the western slope of the hill, another sorcerer is depicted, who holds an ax in his left hand, and points to the north with his right.

A giant lizard is clearly visible at its left side. Other figures on Unitas depict rectangular people with large heads, one of which has something that looks like an elephant's trunk.

The most decorated hill in Atacama, Kerro Pintados, 6 km from the village of the same name, depicts not only people in hats, birds and llamas, but also rectangles, squares, rhombuses, circles, semicircles, arrows and Maltese crosses.

Elsewhere in the Atacama, erosion, which severely damaged the upper layers of the soil, nevertheless failed to destroy these ancient drawings. In Alto Barranco, you can see herds of llamas with shepherds, and in Alto Guanillos, you can see diamonds and a condor with outstretched wings.

As noted by the connoisseur of Chilean geoglyphs Hans Nemeier Fernandez, they were made in two ways. Light lines are traces of the removed upper layer of gravel, darkened by oxidation, and dark lines are stones laid on light slopes.

Archaeologists, ethnographers and occult scholars believe that the images represent the totems of local Indians hoping for a good harvest and a successful hunt. The huge size was supposed to increase the force of the impact, and the geometric shapes, perhaps, symbolize the crystals used in magic. There is another hypothesis: geoglyphs can be a form of recording astronomical phenomena.

One of the most amazing drawings on the surface of the earth - a giant trident crowned with images of people and animals - is called the "Paracas candelabrum". From time immemorial, it has adorned the sandy slope of the Paracas Peninsula, facing the sea, 300 km from the capital of Peru.

The central trunk of the trident is a groove 500 m long, 4.5 m wide and 60 cm deep, the lateral branches are smaller and shorter. This miracle was mentioned by those who visited Paracas in the 15th century. conquistadors. The drawing has been preserved in its original form due to the extraordinary properties of sand, the smallest particles of which do not move even in very strong winds.

And what did the North American Indians leave us? In 1923, Jerry Phillips, a retired colonel in the US Air Force, discovered from the air in the Colorado River Basin an image of a huge man and an unknown animal with a long tail. By 1970, archaeologists Jay von Werlhof and Harry Kesey counted 275 geoglyphs in the area, the most famous of which are a 29-meter human figure, a 43-meter circle, and an 11-meter-long cougar.

Scientists believe that these drawings were created by the Indians for their religious rites. But how then can one explain the huge image of a snake and an egg found in Ohio, which in European culture is considered a symbol of alchemy, which the American Indians never indulged in?

The love of drawing was also characteristic of the inhabitants of the Old World, especially the inhabitants of the British Isles. The northern slope of the hill in Wilmington, not far from the English Channel, is decorated with the silhouette of a "long man" 70 m tall, holding a thin stick in each hand.

What it means is not clear, and the age of the image is estimated at 2-2.5 thousand years. Apparently, at the same time, a giant appeared in Sern-Abbas in Dorset - a naked man inscribed in a pentagon with a club in his right hand, considered by the ancient Celts as a symbol of fertility.

Many of the slopes of the limestone hills are adorned with horse figures worshiped by the ancient Celts. The most famous image, 111 meters long, is located in Uffington, near Oxford, and in Westbury there was once a horse with a long, bent body and a huge eye, but … in the 18th century. the ancient geoglyph disappeared, and in its place another white horse appeared in a completely naturalistic style.

The abundance of geoglyphs found in all corners of the Earth suggests that many huge and mysterious images are hidden under the grass and other vegetation. Maybe the endless fashion for their creation gave rise to the current multicolored graffiti? We see them today on almost every wall, and for the uninitiated they seem just as mysterious and incomprehensible as the huge figures on the surface of the earth.
