At that time, the valiant soldiers of the Red Army still had fifty kilometers to go to Berlin. But Comrade Stalin did not wait for the actual end of the war, and moreover, he was ready to unleash a new one - against the whole world. Of course, he had very good reasons for this, which remained a secret for 70 years.

Scotland or Yalta

It was beneficial for the allies to arrange a meeting on their territory. Both Churchill and Roosevelt offered Scotland. Stalin refused - they say, I do not like men in skirts. Only on December 23, 1944, Roosevelt agreed to go to the "den of the beast." Churchill had no choice: the leaders of the "free world" packed their bags and prepared for the trip to sunny Yalta.

Struggle for leadership

The conference was formally chaired by Roosevelt. However, at that time the soldiers of the Red Army were already approaching Berlin - to the capital of Germany, our soldiers had some 50 kilometers left. Naturally, Stalin's position in the negotiations was much stronger. In fact, the whole outcome of the case depended on his word.

Stalin's bunker

They showed, as if by chance, the allies and Comrade Stalin's personal bunker. At a depth of ten meters, reinforced with concrete walls and steel piles, this bunker guaranteed life to those who can rule the country and the army. He paid special attention to Roosevelt's shelter dug into the rock - even then the Americans understood that sooner or later they would have to face the Russian bear.

Secret meeting

After the appropriate psychological preparation, a secret meeting between Stalin and Roosevelt took place. It was decided at it: the Soviet Union will enter the war against Japan, doomed, but far from broken. The result of these negotiations, among other things, was a significant expansion of the territory of the USSR.

Results of negotiations

In the trilateral negotiations, Stalin pretty much bent the rest of the participants. For entering the war against Japan, the Soviet Union received as many as 56 islands of the Kuril ridge and South Sakhalin. The modern Kaliningrad region was formed - where East Prussia was until recently. Lvov and significant parts of Western Ukraine remained ours.

UN and Security Council

But that was not all. It was at those negotiations that the basic principles for the formation of the UN and the main instrument of the entire organization, the Security Council with veto power, were decided. Disputes about this almost led to a new war - the allies did not want the USSR to receive such influence in Europe. Fortunately, unbending will allowed Stalin to insist on his own. In this way, the boundaries were established that contained the chaos that had already begun in the post-war world.

Cold war

But very soon after the Yalta talks, the first incident occurred, which unfolded in the Cold War. However, had not the principle of the UN and the Security Council been formed by that time, had not been for those secret negotiations with Roosevelt, it could well have become "hot".
