The world's first medical scanner that provides a three-dimensional picture of the entire human body at once, recently performed the first examination.
The EXPLORER (as the device is called) is a combination of positron emission tomography (PET) and X-ray computed tomography (CT). Since the device analyzes radiation much more efficiently than other scanners, the image is displayed in just one second, and in the future it will be possible to track processes (for example, the effects of drugs) in real time.
The scope of the device is extremely wide, while the details that the device allows you to see are amazing. The scanner allows you to see processes that cannot be recorded with a conventional PET scan. The machine has been in development for 13 years.
The EXPLORER can perform a complete diagnostic scan of the body in just 20-30 seconds, and the radiation dose is up to 40 times less than with a PET scan, which allows frequent examinations even in pediatrics. The device should enter the market in June 2019.
