The Mystery of Limuria - the disappearance of an ancient civilization

Many people know about the legendary Atlantis, which sank in the waters of the Atlantic. But ancient legends tell about other continents where advanced civilizations flourished and which were under water as a result of grandiose global cataclysms. However, today they remain much less known to the reader.

By the middle of the 19th century, the rapid development of science and technology made it possible to introduce some variety into the centuries-old dogmas about the origin of the Earth and life on it. The age of steam and electricity has allowed for research in remote areas of our planet. In particular, the studies of the island of Madagascar turned out to be very interesting. Despite the proximity to Africa, most of the plants and animals living in Madagascar turned out to be endemic (a plant or animal that is not found anywhere else in the world), and their number is so large that the island can be considered part of any continent. Its indigenous people are not related to the Negroid race, but much closer to the inhabitants of Indonesia.

Soon, a theory appeared about a lost continent or a chain of islands in the Indian Ocean, which once stretched from Africa to Sumatra and India. Back in 1860, while studying fossil plants in ancient rocks of Africa and India, geologist William Blandford drew attention to the amazing similarity of fossil finds and the structure of geological layers. This can only happen if the excavation sites are in the same region. However, in this case, land areas were separated by thousands of kilometers of water space. Long reflections led the researcher to the conclusion that an ancient continent existed on the site of the Indian Ocean.

The name for this hypothetical Indo-Madagascar land was proposed in 1858 by the British zoologist Philip Latley Sclater, after the amazing creatures that Europeans had to encounter in Madagascar. These animals, leading a nocturnal lifestyle, with glowing eyes, voices resembling howling or crying, and an appearance in which the features of a person, a cat and a bear cub are bizarrely mixed, were called lemurs. By the same name, the ancient Romans called the souls of people who did not find refuge in the afterlife. By calling the drowned ancient continent Lemuria, Sclater emphasized its uniqueness.

The next year, Charles Darwin's work "The Origin of Species" was published, and 15 years later, the German naturalist and philosopher Ernst Haeckel suggested the existence of an intermediate form between ape and man. He did not rule out that these missing steps were lost along with Lemuria.

“Many hundreds of millennia ago, in the still not amenable to precise definition of the period of time in the development of our planet, which geologists called Tertiary, presumably by the end of this period, she lived somewhere in a hot zone - most likely on the vast continent, now submerged to the bottom of the Indian Ocean, is an unusually highly developed breed of great apes ", - wrote Friedrich Engels in his famous work" The Role of Labor in the Process of Transformation of the Monkey into Man ".

The belief in the existence of a once-extinct continent in the Indian Ocean was fueled by the study of folklore. Mentions of the land with a developed civilization that disappeared in the Indian Ocean can be found in the mythology of various peoples.

Even the ancient Egyptians have mentions of a country located in the waters of the Ouj-Ur (as they called both the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean), which "disappeared in the waves."

According to Dravidian myths, Lemuria was located south of Hindustan. There was a poetry academy, which existed from time immemorial, headed by Shiva, with which the emergence of Tamil poetry is associated. It existed for 4,400 years and died during the Flood. The Lemurians who managed to escape settled on nearby lands or on the remnants of the continent that remained above the water and brought knowledge to India. Small islands of the Indian Ocean remained from Lemuria.

Some of the researchers consider the western islands of Indonesia to be its remains.

Another cultural tradition, according to the book by D. Alan and J. W. Delair "Evidence of the space catastrophe of 9,500 BC", says that the land that went under water was located in the area of the Myei (Mergui) archipelago off the southern coast of Burma (now Myanmar). One of the ancient Tamil epics often mentions the vast land of Kumari Nadu (later identified by the Europeans with Lemuria), which stretched far into the Indian Ocean from the shores of present-day India. But the ancestral home of the Tamils "was destroyed and swallowed up by the sea."

One of the ancient texts of Sri Lanka says: "In time immemorial, the citadel of Ravan (ruler of Sri Lanka) consisted of 25 palaces and 400,000 inhabitants, subsequently absorbed by the ocean." The sunken land, as the text says, was located between the southwestern coast of India and the island of Manar off Sri Lanka.

The Malgash (indigenous people of the island of Madagascar) also have a rich tradition of oral poetry with stories about the history of the island. And now, according to local myths, Madagascar previously stretched far to the east, but most of it was destroyed by a semblance of the Flood.

And in the end, the most popular Indian epic Mahabharata, dating back to the 5th millennium BC. e., places his hero Rama on a high mountain, from where he looks over the horizon to the land, in the place of which the waters of the Indian Ocean are now splashing. In the same work, for the first time in history, a wheel is mentioned, as well as mysterious "vimanas" - flying machines that are set in motion by the power of thought, and other miracles of the ancient gods. There are descriptions there and destructive war, possible only with the use of nuclear weapons.

It is noteworthy that in the ancient Vedic chronicles there is a completely material confirmation in the form of a unique structure - the so-called Adam's Bridge, laid between India and Sri Lanka, dilapidated, covered with water, but no less majestic from this. This stone chain, 30 miles (48 km) long and connecting the two countries, is called the Rama Bridge by the local population (the name "Adam's Bridge" was given by Muslims). According to ancient Arab, nautical and Portuguese maps, the bridge was pedestrian until the end of the 15th century, when it was destroyed by a storm caused by a powerful earthquake.

The construction of the Rama Bridge is described in the Ramayana, another ancient Indian epic. Construction, if you trust this ancient source, took place about 1 million 200 thousand years ago. The epic was recorded around the 4th century BC. e., and it says: “The bridge was built by the gods. The construction was supervised by Nal, the son of the legendary divine architect Vishvakarman. And the builders were people and an army of monkeys. Rama's troops crossed this bridge to Sri Lanka to fight its ruler, the demon Ravana, who kidnapped Rama's beloved Sita. And according to Muslim legend, Adam crossed these shoals from Sri Lanka to the continent after he was expelled from paradise and fell to Siri Pad, heading for Eve in the area of the modern city of Jeddah.

“The construction of such a bridge could take centuries,” says the researcher of ancient civilizations, writer Philip Coppens. - He, like a high stone ridge, protruded from the water, was superimposed on the ocean floor. For such a construction, almost the entire population of the then India could be needed. Maybe that's why the legends indicate that monkeys helped people. According to fairy tales, they could build, fight, obey all orders of gods and people. This bridge is 30 miles long. And today it is a real labor feat to build such a structure. And then - in ancient times - and at all."

Many of the researchers do not believe that the Adam's Bridge could have been built by intelligent beings at all, and believe that the boulders themselves formed a stone isthmus between India and Sri Lanka for many centuries, and the later description is simply a fairy tale about the power of mythical people of antiquity: after all, they believe that that people in that era were just learning to engage in permanent farming. But many facts testify: at a time when, according to the version of official science, people only knew how to burn pots, they were capable of much more.

The most massive support for the hypothesis of the existence of Lemuria was received from representatives of mystical societies, which included the submerged continent and its inhabitants in their schemes of human development. Our civilization was preceded by the civilization of the Atlanteans, according to the adherents of the "ancient mystical Order of the Rose and Cross" (Rosicrucians) and members of the Theosophical Society. But the Atlanteans also had their predecessors and teachers - the inhabitants of the sunken Lemuria.

“Lemuria, as we called the Continent of the Third Race, was then a gigantic country. It covered the entire region from the foot of the Himalayas, separating it from the inland sea, which rolled its waves through what we know as present-day Tibet, Mongolia and the great desert of Shamo (Gobi); from Chittagong westward to Hardwar and eastward to Assam. From there (from the inland sea) it (Lemuria) spread southward through what we now know as South India, Ceylon and Sumatra; then, embracing on its way, as it moved southward, Madagascar on the right and Tasmania on the left, it descended, not reaching a few degrees to the Antarctic Circle; and from Australia, which at that time was an inland region on the Main Continent, it extended far into the Pacific Ocean beyond Rapa Nui (Teapi or Easter Island),now lying at 26 ° south latitude and 110 ° west longitude.

… Sweden and Norway were an integral part of Ancient Lemuria and Atlantis from the European side, just as Eastern and Western Siberia and Kamchatka belonged to it from Asia,”wrote the founder of the Theosophical Society, traveler and philosopher Helena Blavatskaya.

According to occultists, the Lemuro-Atlantean civilization was the most advanced civilization on Earth. They were deeply versed in the mysteries of nature and primordial wisdom; did not have religion, because they did not know dogmas and did not have convictions based on faith. Lemuro-Atlanteans built huge cities. From the stone they carved their own images, in size and likeness to their own, worshiping them. The oldest remains of Cyclopean structures are also their works. Their aircraft, on which they left the planet, were set in motion by the power of mantras, that is, special spells uttered by a person advanced in spiritual life.

Lobsang Rampa wrote that at that time the climate on the planet was warmer and the flora more abundant. The Earth rotated in a different orbit and had a twin planet. The force of gravity was much less, due to which the inhabitants of the planet were of gigantic stature. But conflicts began to emerge between the various groups of Lemuro-Atlanteans. They ended in a war that once led to a powerful explosion that changed the planet's orbit.

After that, the twin planet began to approach the Earth. The seas overflowed their shores, winds of unprecedented force began to blow. The race of Lemuro-Atlanteans forgot about the quarrels and left the Earth in a hurry. Meanwhile, the approaching planet became larger, and soon a huge spark slipped between it and the Earth. Black clouds crawled, a terrible cold came. Many people and the remaining Atlanteans died. After that, the Sun began to recede, began to rise in the east and set in the west. Our planet has moved to another orbit, it has a new satellite - the Moon.

Helena Blavatsky assured that "the history of the primary Races is buried in the grave of time, not for the Initiated, but only for the ignorant science." In her "Secret Doctrine" she wrote that there were 5 races of people on the planet. The first - "self-born" - were angelic creatures 50-60 m tall, they had one eye (the one that we now call "the third") and multiplied by division. The second race - "post-born" or "immortals" - were ghost-like creatures about 40 m high, also one-eyed, but reproducing by budding and spores. The third race, called "twofold", "androgyne" or "Lemurian", had a longer period of existence and the greatest variability within itself. Within this race there was a separation of the sexes, bones appeared, the body became denser, and from four-armed and two-faced, about 20 m tall, they turned into two-armed and one-faced, already smaller in size. Representatives of the fourth race, called Atlanteans, were two-handed and one-faced, about 6-8 m tall and had a dense body. The fifth race, the Aryan, is already us.

Unlike the search for Atlantis, virtually no expeditions were sent to study Lemuria. Few studies have not found any convincing evidence of the existence of a large island or continent with an advanced civilization. And the famous theory of continental drift, proposed by the German geographer Alfred Wegener in 1912, excluded the idea of sunken continents from scientific use. The hypothesis of the so-called uniformization prevailed, affirming the evolutionary, calm and, to a certain extent, monotonous nature of the development of our planet. The data on the geology and geomorphology of the Indian Ocean floor, recognized by most scientists, did not allow for the existence of significant land areas here.

But many enthusiasts did not allow Lemuria to "drown" completely. The hypothesis of large-scale cataclysms in the history of our planet has also revived. Many of the geologists in the 1950s-1960s also wrote about the fact that the Indian Ocean could once have been land. At least, the history of the development of its northwestern part differs from the development of all other parts, for the granite massifs of East Africa, The Arabian Peninsula and Hindustan find their continuation within the bottom of the Indian Ocean. And therefore, as the famous Soviet geomorphologist O. K. Leontiev wrote, “obviously, it should be considered as a complexly constructed transitional region, formed as a result of intensive fragmentation and differentiated subsidence of the continental outskirts”. True, later Leontiev changed his point of view and abandoned this hypothesis.

Professor D. G. Panov in his book "The Origin of Continents and Oceans" writes: "Even at the beginning of the Quaternary period in the Atlantic Ocean, and possibly in other oceans, modern oceanic ridges were raised high above sea level, and among deep sea depressions in place the guyots were distinguished by many islands. Due to this, the oceans had a complexly dissected appearance and broke up into a series of separate seas, separated either by land bars or by archipelagos of small islands.

New movements of the ocean floor, most likely associated with the general uplift of the continents, led to the revitalization of the ocean floor. Individual islands and ocean ridges began to sink. The old land was destroyed and went under the level of the ocean. In this connection, the picture of the distribution of plants and animals changed, and perhaps the settlement of peoples also changed. Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences V. Belousov, in a number of his works devoted to the origin of continents and oceans, defended a similar point of view, according to which vast areas of land in the Pacific and Indian oceans went under water.

The first tangible evidence of the ancient land on the site of the Indian Ocean was obtained by the Swedish research ship Albatross in 1947. A few hundred miles off the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka, he found a vast underwater plateau of solidified volcanic lava. During the eruption of a volcano (or volcanoes), lava filled the valleys that had not yet sunk. Perhaps this cataclysmic cataclysm coincided with the sinking of the kingdom of Kumari Nadu.

1999 - A ship doing research in the Indian Ocean returned with interesting news. The researchers found indirect evidence that a continent three times the size of modern Australia once sank there. Among the specimens found in the sediment were pollen and pieces of wood.

2013, end of February - a group of volcanologists, geologists and oceanologists made an incredible discovery: at the bottom of the Indian Ocean they discovered a whole continent that they could not find earlier. It turns out that he was simply not noticed under the islands of Mauritius, Reunion and Rodriguez. All of them belong to the Mascarene Islands and appeared as a result of volcanic activity. Mauritius is the oldest of these islands. It is about 10 million years old. Reunion and Rodriguez are younger - they are 2 million years old.

And the most interesting thing is that the Reunion is still being formed. It houses the Piton de la Fournaise volcano, one of the most active in the world. It is because of the relative youth of these islands that scientists did not expect to find something new next to them. However, all of a sudden, satellites discovered a strange anomaly in this area of the World Ocean. The fact is that the thickness of the earth's crust here is more than 25 km, while in the oceans this value usually does not exceed 12 km. So geophysicists accidentally stumbled upon a huge lithospheric plate.

If the scientists' version is correct, then Atlantis, Hyperborea, Pacifida and Lemuria in reality could have died during tectonic disasters and were swallowed up by the ocean. According to a number of researchers, the most ancient intelligent inhabitants of the Earth could have lived there - the proto-civilization that died in the catastrophe. From there, take root and myths about Atlantis, the continent of Mu and other dead lands.

And here it is necessary, perhaps, to make one clarification. Both Atlantis and Hyperborea over the course of many centuries of human history were perceived as completely independent, albeit semi-mythical, objects. This is not the case with Lemuria and the Pacifida, also known as the continent of Mu. They are often identified, which creates a lot of confusion.

On the one hand, Lemuria and Pacifis could have previously formed a single continent, later split up and sunken. On the other hand, we already have so little information about these hypothetical lands that, probably, it is not necessary to arrange additional confusion of coordinates, quotes and concepts. Therefore, following the majority of researchers, we will locate Lemuria exclusively in the Indian Ocean. And now let's move on to the chronicles of the Pacifida, which was once spread over the vast expanses that were called by different peoples either the South Sea or the Eastern Ocean. 1520 - the navigator from Portugal Fernand Magellan gave these sea expanses a paradoxical name - the Pacific Ocean.
