Many people are terrified of becoming victims of the evil eye, evil wishes and, worst of all, of being exposed to a curse. Our memory keeps the legends about the soul of the sinner, which does not find rest and peace because of the evil committed in the past or a spell cast by a sorcerer or an envious person.

One of the most famous stories on this topic tells how the King of France Philip the Fair persecuted and tortured the Order of the Templars, wanting to appropriate the wealth and power of the knights. In 1314, the Grand Master of the Order, Jacques de Molay, was burned alive in Paris. Before giving his soul to God, he cursed those who doomed him to death, and promised that no later than a year later they would all be called to the highest court.

The murderers of the master - Philip the Handsome, his slander Guillaume de Nogaret and Pope Clement - were skeptical about the prediction. But the curse of the grand master had a terrible force - all three died in terrible agony one after another during the year.

This story is inevitably suggestive

Less well known in Russia is the story of the curse uttered before his execution by Ned Kelly, a poor Australian farmer who reluctantly became Robin Hood. Defending his sister, he wounded a police officer who was harassing her and was forced to flee. For several years, he waged a real war against the colonial authorities of Australia. In the end, after a real fight, the wounded Kelly was captured by the police. The robber was tried by Sir Redmond Barry, known for his cruelty (he had previously sent Ned Kelly's mother to prison on a fabricated case). Although the petition in support of Kelly was signed by more than 30,000 people, there was no doubt about the outcome of the process. Judge Barry sentenced Kelly to the gallows. When, after sentencing, he uttered the generally accepted words in such cases: "May God have mercy on your soul," Kelly replied: "I will soon go far, and when I get there,I will see you there”(“I will go a little further than that, and say I will see you there when I go”).

Kelly was hanged on November 11, 1880. And on November 23, 1880, twenty days after Kelly's execution, Sir Redmond Barry died of pneumonia and a carbuncle in his neck.

Tragic pages of the past

Another tragedy associated with the curse pronounced by the defrocked and doomed to eternal imprisonment in the casemate by Archbishop Arseniy Matsievich was recorded in archival documents. The archbishop opposed the decree of Catherine II, according to which church lands were transferred to the state, and always openly expressed criticism of the authorities. Then the Empress gave the order to remove Matsievich from all posts, he was disarmed as a monk and sent into exile. The ceremony was performed by clergymen well known to Arseny, who obediently submitted to the will of the Empress. This gloomy event is easier to convey in the dry words of a historian.

When came “the day appointed for the dedication ceremony, the soldiers had to move the crowd apart in order to let the brought Arseny into the Synod-Chamber. At the direction of the empress, he was in full out-of-service bishop's vestments: in a mantle, with a panagia and a staff. … When Arseny was exposed, he really predicted to Dmitry Sechenov: "You will suffocate from your own language." Four years later (in 1767) Dmitry really died suddenly from an apoplectic stroke. Arseny said to Gedeon (Krinovsky) Pskov: "But you will not see your diocese." And young Gideon (only 36 years old) died suddenly on the way, not reaching Pskov. His compatriot Ambrose (Zertis-Kamensky), who often stayed with Arseny in Rostov, bitterly rebuked the latter: “You, poisonous bread with me, exalted a stammer on me. And like an ox you will be stabbed with a knife. "This happened in Moscow during the cholera riot in 1771”(Kartashov. History of the Russian Church).

We can recall other events associated with the revolution in France. Danton's curse on his former comrade-in-arms, the Jacobin Maximilian Robespierre, has long become history. Once the closest friends, who together destroyed the power of the aristocrats and achieved the execution of the king, they disagreed on the future of the country. Both Robespierre and Danton had a hand in unleashing terror in France, but soon there was a chill between the friends. Danton began to repent of the unleashed bloodshed and opposed the continuation of the executions. The denouement came on March 31, 1794. By order of Robespierre, Danton and his supporters were arrested. After a speedy trial, which was held in flagrant violation of all the rules of the law, Danton and his comrades, accused of conspiracy against the republic, were sent to the guillotine.

When the convicts were driven on a cart along the rue Saint-Honoré to the place of execution, they had to drive past the house in which Robespierre lived. Danton, waiting for this moment, shouted with all his might: "Maximilian, I'm waiting for you!" They say that Robespierre, who was at that moment locked up in his house, turned pale. And from what: on July 27 of the same 1794, Robespierre was overthrown, and on July 28, guillotined. Before his execution, they drove him along the same road as Danton, and the mob hooted after him. The reason for the fall of Robespierre was the strange, completely inexplicable indecision shown by the dictator on the critical days before the coup. Danton's curse? We will hardly ever find out this secret.

The rock that haunts the Kennedy family

The circumstances of the death in Dallas of President John F. Kennedy from a bullet wound are still largely mysterious and not fully investigated. It is very possible that dark forces intervened in this long-standing incident. The reason that many members of the Kennedy clan did not die natural death lies in the curse pronounced in the early 19th century …

The Kennedy family, wealthy farmers, were living in Ireland at the time, where a sudden drought began. The grain harvest died, and a severe famine raged in the country. However, Kennedy's farmers did not need anything, selling at exorbitant prices the huge stocks of grain stored in barns. Once a beggar family of hungry Irish passed by the house. They asked for some food for their child and received a cold refusal. In response to Kennedy's more insistent request, dogs were set on them. And the mother of the hungry child asked for help from the highest justice - she uttered a curse to the entire Kennedy family.

There is another version: once upon a time a certain Patrick Joseph Kennedy, who emigrated to America, was engaged in robbery and once, together with a gang, dishonored and killed mother and daughter. This terrible act initiated the curse that persecutes the entire Kennedy family and sends sickness and fatal accidents to Patrick's male descendants. No wonder that most of Joseph Kennedy's nine children, including John F. Kennedy, died an unnatural death.

The Tolstoy family gave Russia many talented and famous people, including three writers. But many people know that Peter Andreevich Tolstoy was awarded the title of count by Peter I for a reason, but for the brilliant fulfillment of the most difficult mission - he, with flattery and promises, managed to persuade Tsarevich Alexei to return to his homeland. Had Alexey Petrovich stayed in a foreign land, he might have saved his life. Tolstoy knew that Peter's son was returning to certain death, but he convinced him that his father would let him live in peace. As you know, the political ambitions of Peter frightened the prince, he did not want to continue the work of his life, and his very existence was a source of constant threat for his father.

The deceived Alexei was placed in the dungeon of the Peter and Paul Fortress, where he died. Contemporaries claimed that he was tortured and killed by order of the king. They also said that before his death, Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich cursed the entire family of Tolstoy, who lured him to death, up to the 25th generation. And since then, either feeble-minded people or people who have lost all moral guidelines are often born in the family.

Damned places

You can wish evil on one person, a group of people, a certain place or even a city. Everyone knows about the so-called "bad" places where strange events happen to people, frightening experiences take place. The geopathogenic zone is not always to blame for this - often we simply no longer know about what happened here many years ago. We do not know, but we feel that we are overcome by an incomprehensible anxiety.

As you know, having taken Carthage in 146 BC, the Romans imposed a curse on this city and razed it to the ground. And here's a strange thing - the city has never been reborn in its former power, despite its geographically advantageous location. Even the Romans themselves forgot about their own curse and a hundred years later began to rebuild Carthage. And, it seemed, there were all the prerequisites for Carthage to regain its power and greatness. But, as the Roman consul Cato said, "Carthage must be destroyed" - and it was destroyed by the Arabs, and then, in the 16th century, the Spaniards finished the job. Truly, you should not throw words to the wind - especially in such a responsible matter as urban planning.

In the case described by us, the will of the entire Roman people insisted on the destruction of Carthage as on the path to the wealth and prosperity of the nation. However, the curse of an individual person is unlikely to wipe out an entire city from the face of the earth. The topic is regularly raised that our northern capital, St. Petersburg, was cursed even at its founding, and the ominous adage “Petersburg is empty” is repeated … The curse is attributed either to the former queen and wife of Peter the Great, Evdokia, or to the Old Believers. But, as we can see, the city is safely standing and even expanding.

Damn places are much more complicated. Some terrible events or sorrowful experiences may well leave an indelible imprint on a particular house, street, vacant lot.

In Yekaterinburg (formerly Sverdlovsk) there is the notorious Ipatiev house, in which the royal family was shot after the revolution. But few people know that in 1895 the building belonged to the wealthy merchant Redikortsev, who had a weakness not for women, but for his own sex. The immoral life of the merchant for a long time served as the subject of gossip and brought him to a high-profile trial. Shortly before the trial, the merchant died due to a weak heart, and his "comrades" were severely punished - they were sent to hard labor. The death of Nicholas II and his family finally led to the fact that the house was considered a cursed place and bypassed. The Temple-on-the-Blood was built on this site - hopefully, it will cleanse the energy.

In Belarus, the majestic Mir castle rises, which in the past belonged to the richest family of the Radziwills. Tour guides retell the following legend to visitors. The garden to the right of the castle used to be rustling - however, at the end of the 19th century, the owner of the castle, Prince Nikolai Svyatopolk-Mirsky, who ordered to cut down all the trees and build a pond in that place, somehow did not like it. An accident happened: during the execution of the plan, a lumberjack died, and the mother of the unfortunate man uttered a curse, saying that now for each tree cut down, the pond would take for itself one victim every year. Soon Sonya, the 12-year-old princess, drowned in the pond, and then the prince himself was found dead on the shore of the pond. According to the stories of local residents, even now people are drowning in this pond - mostly men.

A place can be considered "bad" not even because someone has put a curse on it, but because the beliefs of a particular people endow the whole ordinary place with supernatural properties. Let us explain what has been said. In Japan, Mount Ihai rises, the outlines of which are similar to the posthumous Buddhist tablet with the name of the deceased. Therefore, the Japanese believe that if someone dares to cut down at least one tree on this mountain, one of his relatives will soon pass away. Meanwhile, if a European tourist sees this mountain, he will not have any bad thoughts. And you can argue that, with a high probability, if he accidentally chops down a tree on the mountain, he will return home safe and sound, and his relatives will remain safe and sound. But! - only on condition that none of the locals will acquaint our tourist with information about the curse. This information itself can be devastating.

Now the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, rebuilt in the very center of Moscow, is striking in its beauty. However, many people feel anxious being inside - they remember the words spoken by the abbess of the Alekseevsky monastery in 1832: "There will be nothing sacred here, but there will be Chertolye - the devil's expanse." Geoecologists, by the way, say that there are quicksands under the foundation of the temple, and every year the building sinks 2 cm into the ground. However, believers are of the opinion that after the consecration of the built temple, the curse went into oblivion.

Protection of light forces

These and other chilling stories show us that the curse does exist and can spread both to humans and to inanimate objects. It is hardly possible to recall cases in which wishes of misfortune would be pronounced just like that. They came from people who were severely affected by the actions of a specific person, who, as a result, was responsible for his own behavior: his life did not work out, he suffered ruin or a terrible death.

Therefore, those who believe in the power of a curse and are afraid of it should remember that they themselves are the creators of their own destiny, that is, refrain from rash, cruel, unrighteous actions in relation to others. If you are cursed by an evil, degraded, unjust person, his words will return to him according to the law of the highest justice, you should not attach importance to them. If you really have something to reproach yourself with, the best way out is to sincerely repent, confess and pray for your guilt. The same applies to people whose family is on the verge of extinction or is constantly exposed to misfortunes - you need to ask for forgiveness for the sins of your ancestors and constantly carry out spiritual work within yourself.

A special category is the parental curse, which has a powerful force (remember Taras Bulba with his famous "I gave birth to you, I will kill you"). It is especially dangerous because there is a close bond between parent and child from birth. There is a popular belief that it is most dangerous to pronounce negative wishes from twelve to one in the afternoon or at night - this is a special time when what was said can come true.

In the Carpathians, there are the Hoverla and Petros mountains, about which the local residents tell a beautiful story, as if earlier these mountains were young men and women in love. However, Hoverla's father was against their wedding and cursed them for neglecting parental will. Immediately after the illegal wedding, the young turned into mountains … In Chernigov, they still see the ghost of Kochubei's daughter Maria, who gave her love to her father's killer and cursed mother. Similar legends exist in all parts of the world. What can you say or advise here? Only one thing: honor your parents and respect their desires, and you will be fine.

A curse pronounced by a rejected lover, and even more so by a seller in the market or an annoying beggar, is removed more easily and has much less destructive consequences. Better to go to church, relieve your soul with prayer and confession.

Not all evil words and wishes come true. The curse will not stick to light, optimistic, kind people. Be more positive and - God forbid! - Do not curse anyone yourself, even if you are really offended. Time itself will put everything in its place.
