The remains of three Dutch and three British warships sunk in the Java Sea during World War II have mysteriously disappeared. This was announced by Jeanine Hennis-Plasschert - Minister of Defense of the Netherlands. According to the politician, we are talking about ships that sank in 1942 during the battle with Japan. The wreck was long thought to be lost until it was accidentally noticed by civilian divers in 2002.
Now this ship's graveyard has mysteriously evaporated from the seabed. The loss was unexpectedly discovered by an international expedition that recently set off for the Java Sea to examine the wrecks of ships. At the moment, experts are racking their brains trying to find a scientific explanation for what happened. The British were immediately involved in the investigation, who were, apparently, most discouraged by the mysterious disappearance of the wreckage.
What happened to the sunken ships?
Some experts suspect that the ships may have been illegally scrapped. Unknown people, of course, in theory could raise them from a seventy-meter depth and sell them for metal rubbish, but this is hard to believe. The criminals would certainly have drawn attention to themselves, since such a lift could only be carried out in the course of a large-scale operation with numerous floating cranes, barges and professional divers.
According to a more plausible theory, the local Indonesian population sank to the bottom for years and sawed off parts of sunken ships until no trace remained of the remains of the ships. For this, for example, grapple grips could be used. However, this hypothesis does not hold up to criticism, since it is known for certain that scuba divers dived here in 2014, and the wreckage of all six ships was then still in place. Would anyone have started hauling scrap metal a hundred kilometers to the nearest shore? Obviously, this is financially irrational.
There are also experts who suggest that the shipwrecks could have been moved along the bottom by tectonic plate movements and violent storms, although such "transportation" would require tsunamis of unprecedented intensity, which were not observed here. In addition, in seventy-four years, the wrecks of the sunken ships should have been filled with sand, becoming completely unmanageable.
