A kindergarten teacher from Lins (Brazil) Laura Pons suffers from a mysterious ailment that manifests itself in crystal tears.

Not in the sense that this woman's tears are crystal clear, but in the fact that when she cries, the tears instantly turn into white crystals.

At times, because of this, Laura has to take sick leave and remove up to 30 hard plates a day from under her eyelids.

“When these plates dry out, they become hard and cause great pain,” says the woman.

The first symptoms of this strange disease appeared when Laura was only 15 years old - instead of tears, her eyes suddenly began to fill with an incomprehensible white substance. She got scared and called her mother Marissa. She tried to remove the formed white plate from under her daughter's swollen eyelids, but a new one immediately began to form instead.

“I was terrified. We called the ambulance, but the doctor also could not explain what was happening,”recalls Marissa.

Now Laura is 35 years old, and doctors still do not know how to treat her and do not even understand what caused this condition.
