1. The Tmutarakaan stone is a marble slab with a Cyrillic inscription carved on it in Old Russian. Found in Taman, ten to fifteen meters from the sea. Here in the summer of 1792 Suvorov's huntsmen built a redoubt to protect the pier. And they adapted the found large marble block as the threshold of their barracks. Here the mysterious inscription was seen by the commander of the rangers. The stone is currently kept in the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg.

That is, in 1068, Prince Gleb measured the sea across the ice from Tmutarakan to Kerch, measuring the width of the Kerch Strait between the two parts of his principality.

After the defeat of the Khazar Kaganate in 965 (or, according to other sources, in 968-969) by Prince Svyatoslav Igorevich, the city passed under the rule of Ancient Rus. Tmutarakan (Tmutorokan, Tmutorokon, Tmutorokan, Tmutorotan, Torokan) is the capital of the ancient Russian Tmutarakan principality.
