In the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Taiwan, five sharks of the rarest species were caught at once. Their feature is a frightening jaw protruding outward just like the xenomorph from the science fiction movie "Alien".

True, the frightening appearance of this shark is compensated by its relatively small size. The largest is no more than half a meter. Their teeth are long and in the form of narrow hooks. The jaws that extend outward to almost the full length allow this small shark to completely swallow large enough prey up to 40% of its own size.

Unlike many other species of katranoid shark, whose teeth are adapted to snatch chunks from prey, these sharks are ideally suited to grabbing and swallowing.

Scientifically, this species is called "Trigonognathus kabeyai". The first sharks of this species were discovered in 1986, and described as a new species in 1990. Since then, only a few of these sharks have been caught, several more have been found in the stomachs of large predatory fish, and scientists do not even know how many of them are still preserved in the ocean.

They live mainly in a small area off the Kii Peninsula, Japan at a depth of 270 to 360 meters at night and at about 150 meters during the day.

Another rare feature of these sharks is that they can glow in the dark. And because of the very sharp thin teeth, these sharks are also called viper sharks.
