Reports of UFO encounters received by the Ministry of Defense in 1997 (page of one of the declassified documents)

The National Archives of Great Britain published 18 new documents on UFO sightings in Foggy Albion on 5 August. Most of the declassified documents date back to 1995-2003. Among other things, the interest in this topic is also mentioned by Winston Churchill (prime minister in 1940-1945 and 1951-1955). According to the cited conclusions of specialists, most of the "UFOs" turned out to be Soviet reconnaissance aircraft

The documents contain correspondence, newspaper clippings and questionnaires with interviews with eyewitnesses. According to the newspaper The Daily Telegraph, among other things, there are letters from scientists who described the observations "from a scientific point of view." One physicist from Leicester, whose name has not yet been established, claims that his grandfather also witnessed a meeting between Churchill and Dwight D. Eisenhower, who made the decision to cover up the UFO incident.

Before the collapse of the USSR, according to the data unearthed by journalists in the materials posted on the site, about 200 unexplained objects were observed over the UK every year, after 1990 their number dropped significantly, almost to zero. From this fact, a conclusion is drawn about the man-made nature of most of the observed devices.

The Ministry of Defense also announced on an official appeal by parliamentarian Martin Redmond that the UFOs turned out to be anti-submarine aircraft or long-range reconnaissance aircraft of the Soviet Air Force. By that time, some of them had already managed to detect remote air defense systems and radars.
