Everyone has probably heard about the Bermuda Triangle, and some, perhaps, were lucky enough to even visit there. But in this post we want to talk about places much more scary and mysterious. Those in which reality meets something inexplicable.

Valley of the Headless - Canada

This place is located in the vast Canadian expanses in the Nahanni National Park. It got its eerie name because of a whole series of tragic incidents spanning more than 100 years. At the end of the 19th century, gold was found here, and fortune hunters from all over the country reached the valley.

The first disaster happened in 1898, when a group of six gold miners disappeared without a trace. They tried to find them, but could not. Seven years later, in the same valley, two McLood brothers and their friend Robert Veer disappeared. Just like the first group, they just disappeared without a trace. Only three years later, nine decapitated corpses were accidentally discovered, which could only be identified by miraculously preserved talismans.

Mysterious disappearances of people continued later. It got to the point that in 1962-1965 two expeditions were sent to the valley to clarify the circumstances. However, these scientists, too, were soon found without heads. In 1978, another, much more prepared and equipped expedition gathered. It was headed by the renowned American paranormal researcher Henk Mortimer. The scientists carried with them a full set of equipment that might be needed in an emergency, as well as the necessary equipment to maintain constant communication with the camp.

Nevertheless, already in the evening of the first day of the expedition, the operator in the camp heard on the radio the terrible screams of the members of the expedition and the words of the radio operator Ray Wilson: "Emptiness comes out of the rock … It's awful!" In alarm, a helicopter with armed fighters on board was immediately raised, however, nothing at all was found at the place where, according to the members of the expedition, their tent should have been, no traces of the presence of people were found. And only after five days of continuous searches, rescuers still managed to find the headless corpse of one of the scientists.

Deaths and mysterious disappearances in the Valley of the Headless continue to this day. But there is not even the slightest hint of what is really going on there. People put forward many versions. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is a gang of thugs operating in the valley who hunt for gold diggers and their prey. However, the local police do not confirm this guess. According to the sheriff, no one has ever noticed any strange strangers in this place.

But the locals themselves are sure that all deaths are the work of the sosquatch. Creatures similar to hairy giant people were often seen here, and even more often traces of it were found. Whether Bigfoot could have dealt so cruelly with the uninvited guests of his domain is unknown.

Kola superdeep well - Russia

Oddly enough, but man-made structures can also become strange and mysterious places. Drilling of a superdeep well began on the Kola Peninsula in the seventies of the last century. And immediately this project caused strong discontent among local residents. The elders were worried that the disturbed underground inhabitants would become angry and take revenge on the people. The Soviet leadership of the well, naturally, did not take such things seriously. Moreover, the first kilometers were surprisingly easy for the drillers. It seemed that the project would be very successful. However, when the depth of the well reached ten kilometers, problems began. Accidents followed literally one after another: either the cable would break, or the heavy-duty drill would suddenly melt. From time to time, strange sounds were heard from the mouth of the well, similar to the groans and sobs of thousands of people. All this pretty much frightened the drillers.

And then a series of accidents began at the well. In 1982, a metal structure suddenly fell to death and crushed one of the workers. And in 1984, a broken mechanism tore off the head of the head of the drilling shift. Another strange incident occurred with a team of workers who suddenly fell ill from an unknown illness: the whole body of people was swollen, and blood began to ooze from the pores of the skin. The workers had to be urgently sent by helicopter to Murmansk. However, they did not begin to treat them in the city: as soon as the drillers were in the hospital, all the symptoms disappeared by themselves, but they flatly refused to return back.

Local residents, having learned about what had happened, were unanimous in their opinion: this saivok is a mysterious people that once lived on the surface of the Earth, and after a strong natural cataclysm left to live in underground caves. Legends describe saivok as small creatures living deep underground and possessing a terrible witchcraft power that can even stop the sun and moon.

Lake Dead - Kazakhstan

This small lake in the Taldykurgan region of Kazakhstan seems completely ordinary from the outside. But, as we know, appearances are often deceiving. Even in the hottest summer, when only muddy puddles remain from most of the local water bodies, this lake not only does not dry up, but also remains terribly cold, even icy. There is absolutely no life in the lake: there are no fish, no algae grow, even the smallest aquatic insects do not live. Scientists suggest that some toxic gas that can rise from a crevice at the bottom of the lake is to blame.

And okay, if the oddities of the Dead Lake ended there, they could be explained scientifically. But there is also another side. People are constantly drowning in the lake. Most of them, of course, are careless tourists, because the locals prefer to bypass this place, because there is a belief that if you go into the waters of the lake, the dead will drag you to the bottom. It is also frightening that the drowned people of the Dead Lake do not float to the surface, as is usually the case in such cases, but, on the contrary, sink to the bottom and stand there straight like candles. Even professional divers with equipment cannot stay in the water of this lake for more than five minutes. For some inexplicable reason, they suddenly begin to choke, although their cylinders are still full of air.

Black Bamboo Hollow - China

This place, located on the eastern slope of Mount Mae'an, is rightfully considered one of the most powerful anomalous zones in the world. Hundreds of people annually enter this bamboo jungle and stay there forever. And everything disappears completely without a trace - no traces, no bodies, no personal belongings. Nothing remains of people at all. Documented cases of missing people here date back to the middle of the last century. In 1950, for some unknown reason, an airplane crashed here. Interestingly, there were no technical faults on board, the crew did not give distress signals and did not report any oddities. The plane, along with all the people, simply disappeared.

The only known rescue from Black Bamboo Hollow was in 1962. Then a whole exploration expedition disappeared there. Only the conductor managed to survive, who later told everyone what had happened there. According to him, on the approach to the valley, he lingered a little and lagged behind the main group. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the fog that had taken up covered the valley with a thick veil. There was nothing beyond an arm's length to be seen. The guide tells how he felt at this moment a strong, inexplicable fear, which literally paralyzed him and did not allow him to budge. The fog disappeared as quickly as it appeared just a few minutes later, and with it the whole expedition disappeared. No people, no bodies, no things, no equipment were found.

People still argue about the reasons for these strange disappearances in the Hollow. Someone adheres to more scientific theories and explains everything by rotting plants, emitting toxic psychotropic vapors or strong geomagnetic radiation. And someone is talking about portals to parallel worlds and time paradoxes that carry people from the hollow to some other reality. Be that as it may, the mystery of this hollow haunts many, and many tourists from all over the world annually go to this dark bamboo jungle. Not all of them come back.

Palmyra Island - Pacific Ocean

Palmyra is a small uninhabited atoll with an area of only 12 sq. km. He was first seen in 1798 by the American captain Edmund Fanning, sailing on his ship on the way from America to Asia. The ship, which became a victim of coastal reefs due to bad weather, was wrecked. Many of those who tried to swim to the island drowned or were eaten by sharks. Those who nevertheless escaped later said that they would never again agree to be on this cursed land for any riches of the world. During the two months that they were there, out of 10 people only three survived. They claimed that the rest were killed by the island.

During World War II, the central lagoon and the surrounding islets were used by US Air Force aircraft for landing. Barracks, an airstrip, several kilometers of roads were built on the island. However, everyone who at different times was on the island unanimously insisted that he awakened fear, depression, anger and hatred in them. Some unexpectedly took their own lives for no apparent reason, while others, on the contrary, suddenly went crazy and killed their friends and colleagues. Almost everyone says that the island was scary all the time.

Overton Bridge - Scotland

A small footbridge located near the town of Dumbarton. The bridge was built at the end of the 19th century and for over 50 years it remained an ordinary, unremarkable bridge. Exactly until 1951, when a certain dog, for no apparent reason, took and jumped off this 15-meter bridge. It would seem just an accident. But by 1955, there were already more than 50 such suicide dogs.

Moreover, it is noteworthy that all the dogs for jumping always chose the same place - between the last two flights on the right side of the bridge. Until now, on average, one dog per month jumps from this bridge. Surprisingly, some of the dogs that managed to survive this suicide attempt recovered and went to the bridge to jump again.

Scientists have put forward many versions of the explanation for this strange phenomenon. Some have suggested that dogs are attracted to the rodents living under the bridge, but this theory does not hold water. Dogs are intelligent enough animals to understand that you should not jump from 15 meters, obeying only the hunting instinct. Versions with more mystical overtones say, for example, that the river flowing under the bridge is of great importance and the water in it literally "feeds" on dog blood.

Aokigahara Forest - Japan

Translated from Japanese, the name of this place sounds like "Plain of Blue Trees". But most often it is called the "Suicide Forest". This is a very dense and dense forest, the trees in it stand almost like a solid wall. They say that back in the Middle Ages, when there were hungry years, the local poor, driven to despair by the lack of food, brought their elderly relatives here and left them to die in this forest. The groans of these unfortunate people could not break through the dense veil of trees, and no one heard their cries. Since then, restless souls wander through the forest, trapping lonely travelers, wanting to avenge all their suffering.

Until now, 70 to 100 bodies of people who have decided to commit suicide are found in the forest every year. Of course, not everyone is found, many climb into a completely impassable wilderness and forever remain a part of this forest. Many specially come to this forest to commit suicide, but there are rumors that the forest itself “persuades” some to do so. As if someone who has turned off the paved hiking trails to the side is immediately seized by the strongest melancholy and depression. So strong that the poor fellow immediately puts his hands on himself.
