Astronomers have announced that they will be able to get the first photograph of a black hole, which is located in the center of our Galaxy. This is reported by Phys.org.

Scientists have used a global network of telescopes, called the Event Horizon Telescope, to study a supermassive black hole located in the constellation Sagittarius at a distance of 26 thousand years from Earth. The object is designated Sagittarius A * and is located in the center of the Milky Way. The observations lasted for five nights, and recorded radio waves emitted by the hole.

The resulting data will be processed by supercomputers located at the MIT Haystack Observatory in the US state of Massachusetts. This is expected to take several more months. Astronomers hope to be able to see the event horizon, which is estimated to be up to 20 million kilometers in diameter.

The Event Horizon Telescope includes eight observatories that, according to astronomer Michael Bremer, collectively act as a single telescope 10,000 kilometers across. This allows you to significantly increase the resolution of the resulting images and the level of their detail: the network can "see" a golf ball on the surface of the moon.
