Italian scientists from the University of Milan claim that seven out of ten deeply grieving people have seen or heard phantoms of their deceased relatives. It is believed that most of them do not share these visions with anyone, fearing that others will think that they are mentally ill.

According to a study conducted by scientists from Italy, between 40 and 60 percent of widowed people saw the ghosts of their spouses, who appear nearby or call them to him.

The researchers suggest that there is a fairly high prevalence of transhallucinatory experiences after the bereavement of loved ones, even among those who do not suffer from mental disorders or are atheists.

"The numbers speak for an incredibly high prevalence of hallucinatory experiences - about half among widowed people," the researchers wrote in a report published in the journal of Affective Disorders.

There is very little research on this topic, scientists believe that additional is needed to learn all hallucinatory phenomena and experiences.

British researcher Jacqueline Hayes also took part in the study of this phenomenon. She interviewed several hundred people from different parts of the UK who have recently lost close relatives.

“People said they saw silhouettes next to them, heard voices, felt warm touches, and even smelled - this is called a sense of presence, which does not belong to any of the five senses,” said Miss Hayes.

Hayes wrote in her scientific work that consciousness exists for a long time after the death of a person, which was previously considered impossible.
