Beef grown in a test tube under laboratory conditions may appear in restaurants and shops no later than 2021. The Dutch company Mosa Meat is developing a technology that allows the production of artificial meat without the participation of animals, which five years ago already released a hamburger with laboratory-made meat.

According to the Associated Press (AP), the firm has already received € 7.5 million in investment for further research. The technology for the production of meat in a test tube is that the cells taken from an ordinary animal are "taught" to reproduce in an artificially created environment. At the same time, according to representatives of Mosa Meat, just one group of cells can grow so much meat that it is enough for the production of 80 thousand hamburger patties weighing 113 grams each.

Scientists are sure that the most promising production of beef, pork and chicken. They set their goal as a reduction in the cost of the obtained products, so that one hamburger cutlet would cost no more than $ 1.

Despite the fact that full-fledged production of artificial meat is still far from the beginning, there is already a debate about what the new product will be called. The options include “clean meat,” since the proliferating cells will not reproduce the fatty layers and various films that cover the tenderloin in meat obtained from farm animals.

Calculations show that meat production in laboratories will be much cheaper than raising beef cattle. In addition, the amount of harmful emissions into the environment will be significantly reduced.
