With the beginning of the New Kingdom in the epoch of the 18th dynasty, the city began to flourish.
Thebes became the political and religious center of the great Egyptian state, the center of the Cult of the Sun - Ra and Spiritual Light - Amun. It was here, on the eastern bank of the Nile, that two grandiose temples were built: the Luxor Temple, which in ancient times bore the name "Temple of Humanity" and the Karnak Temple - "The Temple of Chronicles", connected by avenues of sphinxes. These majestic temple complexes were adjacent to palaces, houses of nobility, gardens of rare trees and artificial lakes, obelisks and colossal statues of the pharaohs.
One of the wonders of the ancient world has been preserved in the Karnak Temple - a hypostyle hall with an area of 5 thousand square meters. meters, a roof once towered above it, which rested on 134 columns that have survived to this day.
The columns are arranged in 16 rows, forming a sacred corridor, all the bas-reliefs on them depict the ascent of the pharaoh to the gods. The mystery of the number 134 has always worried initiates and mystics.

On the western bank of the Nile there was a royal residence and a necropolis near Mount Dehenet - "Western Summit", El - Kurn. Unlike the pharaohs of the Old Kingdom, whose capital was in Memphis, the Theban pharaohs during the New Kingdom did not build pyramids in order to hide the tombs as carefully as possible from prying eyes, they were cut out in the rocks, the entrances to the tombs were covered with large stones and walled up, the walls and ceilings of the tunnels and the rooms were covered with colored paintings telling about the life and deeds of the deceased.

Today, about a hundred tombs have been discovered in the Valley of the Pharaohs, almost all are pharaohs, among them: Thutmose III, Amenhotep II, Tutankhamun, Horemheb, Ramses I, Seti I, Ramses III, Ramses VI, Ramses IX.
In the Valley of the Queens, they buried not only queens - the wives and mothers of the pharaohs, but also the untimely deceased Egyptian princes. In the Valley of the Queens, archaeologists have discovered over 70 tombs. Of greatest interest is the tomb of Nefertari, wife of Ramses II. The wall paintings of her tomb illustrate the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
To this day, on the western bank, there are: the aboveground memorial temple of Queen Hatshepsut; a giant funeral temple in honor of the God Amun, built by Ramses II - "House of Millions of Years of Ramses Meriamon", now known as the Ramesseum; Colossi of Memnon - two seated statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III 18 meters high, which guarded the entrance to the unpreserved giant posthumous temple of Amenhotep III.
In Thebes, as in all of Egypt, an exoteric religion for the people and sacred sciences, to which the brotherhood of priests dedicated themselves, were preserved and existed for thousands of years, like the two poles, since the ancient mysteries were never open to everyone.
