Scientists from France suggested that it is necessary to revise the current models of the formation of our planet. They made such a statement at the Goldschmidt2017 conference, which was organized by the Geochemical Society and the European Association of Geochemistry.
Research carried out by scientists has shown that the ratio of zinc to sulfur in the core of the planet is much higher than it was believed until recently. Scientists cannot yet find an explanation for the results obtained in modern popular models of the formation of the Earth's mantle and core.
Researchers came to similar conclusions after conducting an experiment in laboratory conditions (at a temperature of 4.1 thousand kelvin and a pressure of 80 gigapascals). The experiment reproduced the formation of the core and mantle in the bowels of the planet more than four billion years ago.
It should be noted that, according to most theories of the formation of the Earth, the mantle and core were formed from enstatite chondrites or CI chondrites. The results of the latest study show that the Earth's interior could include CH chondrites, which are characterized by a low sulfur content.
