Independent researcher Rex Bunn and National Library of New Zealand employee Sasha Holden have discovered what they believe is the exact location of the eighth wonder of the world. The corresponding article was published in the Journal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, briefly reported by National Geographic.

Researchers tried to establish the location of the Pink and White Terraces - Otukapuarangi. To do this, the authors studied the records of 1859 in the diary of the cartographer Ferdinand von Hostätter, and also reconstructed the events of 1886 that led to the destruction of Otukapuaranga.

Bunn and Holden concluded that they were 9 to 15 meters below the present-day level of Lake Rotomahana on North Island.

Previously, experts believed that the eighth wonder of the world may be located, in particular, at the bottom of Rotomahan.

The Pink and White Terraces were a typical example of formations formed by limestone deposits of carbon dioxide sources. The eighth wonder of the world was destroyed in 1886 by the eruption of the Tarawera volcano.
