This story was told by Chris from Portland, Oregon, who indicated that he is a member of the USAF (United States Air Force) and therefore does not give his full name. The story he told in May 2014 was published in an audio podcast on the paranormal site Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis.
“First, I'll clarify one point, I'm a big skeptic about all these paranormal affairs. But when I was young, something happened that still haunts me. I grew up in New York State, near the Canadian border.
When I was in high school, a buddy and I went fishing in the woods one day, and then we decided to walk 3-4 miles of trail through the woods right across the Canadian border because we wanted to buy packs of beer.
We bought beer and went back. The trail was quite well trodden, perhaps it still exists there now, but it quickly got dark and it so happened that we turned the wrong way and got lost. It's good that we had our fishing lanterns with us. Getting out of the forest, we already began to worry a little, but suddenly we came out into some kind of clearing, in the middle of which there was something like a stone obelisk or a statue.
The glade was large enough, and this statue stood in the very center of it, but it was not it that attracted our attention, but the fact that this obelisk was surrounded by wooden crosses stuck into the ground, on which the remains of various animals in varying degrees of decomposition hung upside down. For some reason, at first we thought it was funny and we giggled, but quickly fell silent.
The first thing that came to my mind was some kind of satanic ritual. And the more we looked at these animals on the crosses, the more we began to get nervous. The thing is that many of the remains were old and completely decomposed, there were even just bones, but quite fresh bodies hung next to them …
Thus, we realized that somewhere nearby there was one or several rather strange people wandering around and it would be best for us to get out of here as soon as possible. We ran away from the clearing, but we still couldn't find our way out onto the trail. A friend offered to orientate myself on the Pole Star and after that something happened that still haunts me.
You know that if you look into the night sky on a clear, cloudless night, you can see the satellites flying there. They are immediately noticeable, since they go with a certain speed and do not stop, following their given orbit.

We saw such a satellite in the sky above us, or rather what we took for a satellite. He moved evenly across the sky and was clearly visible against the background of the night sky. And then he just stopped.
He stopped right above the place from which we escaped. Over that terrible clearing. We stood in fright and looked up at this object, freezing and stretching out our necks. Then there was a light that first passed over us, and then stopped right over that place. I cannot say exactly how high it was and it is difficult to locate the location, it is somewhere within a 4-5 mile radius near the border of New York with Canada.
We broke down and ran away as fast as we could, eventually jumping out onto the trail and returning back to the camp. I want to note that although we carried beer with us, we did not have time to taste it, so everything we saw was not a hallucination. All this was very strange and unnatural and I could not explain it with the help of phenomena that general science recognizes. This event still gives me chills."
