In the US state of New York, there is the city of Amityville, infamous for its mansion, where grisly murders took place forty-two years ago. Many horror films have been shot about this house and at least three dozen books have been written. It is believed that the building is cursed and capable of awakening in some people the darkest side of their soul. However, many are willing to pay good money to own such a legendary home.

The mansion in the Dutch Colonial Revival style was built in 1927. In 1960, the house was sold to the Italian-American Defeo family, consisting of a husband, wife, two daughters and three sons. The eldest son, Ronald, was fond of firearms and had a 35-caliber Marlin 336C rifle. On the night of November thirteenth, 1974, a twenty-three-year-old man killed all his relatives in his sleep, and then went to the nearest bar and informed the visitors of the institution about what had happened.

The police established that Ronald, late at night, in cold blood, took turns shooting his sleeping father, mother, two brothers and two sisters. The killer claimed that the voices living in the house were to blame, which made him commit such an inhuman crime. The Defeo trial lasted a whole year. The offender was recognized as mentally sane and sentenced to one hundred and fifty years in prison - a quarter of a century for each killed relative. Now 64, Ronald is serving a sentence in Sullivan Prison. A hearing on his early release will be held next July.

Despite the fact that DeFeo does not deny his guilt, criminologists still call many details of this crime unexplained. For example, all the victims at the time of death lay quietly in their beds, as if they had died before the murder. Did none of them, hearing the shots, try to run away or at least jump out of bed, horrified at the sight of the killer? Moreover, the investigators found that the victims were neither poisoned nor euthanized before. In addition, some police officers even refused to believe that the shooting of the family was carried out by one person. It all boiled down to the fact that members of the DeFeo family were killed in an instant - all at once. However, this did not fit into any logic …

The next owners of the mansion did not live here for two months. According to them, such a frightening devilry was going on in the house that the Lutz family was forced to literally flee this damned dwelling, taking only the most necessary things in a hurry. The same fate befell all the other owners of the killer house, at best, its owners got off with the horror they experienced, at worst - they even died under strange circumstances, or even disappeared …

Today the mansion was put up for sale again, already through an auction. The initial cost of the property is eight hundred and sixty thousand dollars. Obviously, the current owner is counting on the fact that a certain wealthy buyer will be attracted by the bad fame assigned to the three-story building. The seller says there are five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a two-car garage and a boat house by the lake. If you do not take into account all the horrors that happened here over the long years of the existence of the mysterious mansion, then this is quite a suitable place - for a quiet and happy life …
