The bearded man in the crown of thorns depicted on a small bronze coin 24 mm in diameter could be Jesus Christ. This is stated in his book "Jesus, King of Edessa" by the specialist in biblical history Ralph Ellis. The coin has been known to historians for a long time, but until that time it was believed that it depicts the ruler of the state of Edessa, located in Mesopotamia, in the south-east of modern Turkey. Historians believe that his name was Izas Manu or simply Manu. After nearly three decades of research, Ellis came up with a bold and controversial, of course, theory that Manu and Christ could have been the same person. He carefully studied and compared the stories of their lives and came to the conclusion that numerous amazing coincidences cannot be mere coincidences, and that we are talking about the same person.
Despite the fact that Jesus Christ is by far the most depicted person in the history of Western art, there is not a single physical description of him in the Bible. The familiar look with long hair in a white robe appeared already in the 6th century.
According to Ralph Ellis, Jesus was the warlike king of Edessa and Adiabene, known as Isas Manu. Like Jesus, this man wanted to free the Jews from Roman rule. He himself was also a Jew from Nazareth. Only very fragmentary evidence of the death of Izas Manu has survived, including the authorship of Joseph Flavius. Ralph Ellis believes that he was one of the three leaders of Judea who were captured by the Romans and crucified. By the way, the Sun emphasizes, the Bible also says about the three crucified, including Jesus Christ in the crown of thorns.
