Once our Sun had a companion star, which formed together with it from a single gas-dust cloud, but then for some reason moved away. Such conclusions were reached by researchers from the United States of America, who concentrated on studying the processes of star formation.
It turned out that most of the stars like our luminary are born with a pair.
Scientists have proven this proposal using a software model based on observations of a cloud of dust and gas located in the constellation Perseus.
In the cloud in question, intense processes of the formation of new stars were recorded - astronomers have discovered here several dozen stars up to a million years old.
“Observing young stars, we realized that sun-like luminaries are born in pairs. The Sun was probably no exception - somewhere in the Galaxy there is its twin brother, who for some reason left the solar system and rushed to free travel. Now we are trying to find out what could be the reason for the separation of our originally binary system,”- say the authors of the study, employees of the University of California at Berkeley.
