Strange signs carved into limestone several thousand years ago were discovered by archaeologists during excavations in the city of David in Jerusalem. The symbols were found on the floor of a complex consisting of several rooms
The V-shaped structures were 5 cm deep and 50 cm long. Their purpose is still unclear.
According to archaeologists, the mysterious depressions, whose age is estimated at 2.8 thousand years, could serve as a support for fastening some wooden structures in them. Similar symbols were mentioned by the British explorer Montague Parker, who was looking for the treasures of the Temple in Jerusalem in 1909-1911. According to his records, similar V-shaped structures were found in an underground tunnel near where the recent find was made. Currently, archaeologists have not yet explored this area.
Analysis of the ceramic fragments found in the rooms indicates that the pottery was used in the 800s. BC, however, it is possible that the strange symbols on the floor were made even earlier.
