Video: Giant 16th-Century ‘Colossus’ Sculpture In Florence, Italy Has Entire Rooms Hidden Inside 2024, May
Anonim

This grand sculpture, which is a human figure carved directly into the rock, was created by the famous Florentine Mannerist sculptor Giovanni da Bologna (Giambologna) in the late 1500s as a symbol of the rocky Italian Apennines. This stone deity, worthy of the name Apennino, is located in the Villa Pratolino in Tuscany.

But this sculpture has its own secret. Several rooms are hidden inside it, which can be used for their intended purpose. The left hand of the colossus supports the flow of water that originates underground; and according to rumors, the room inside the head was set aside for the fireplace, when lighting a fire in which, the giant's nostrils were supposed to blow out smoke.

The park, which currently houses this stunning sculpture, will be open to tourists on weekends until the end of October.
