When 34-year-old Florida resident Soleannis Lugo was 4 months pregnant, the doctor recommended that she have an abortion, as the child had serious head abnormalities that were incompatible with life. But the woman refused.
When a girl was born, who was given the name Helianni, it became clear that the doctors' predictions were confirmed. The infant had a deformed skull and brain, cleft lip, underdeveloped eyes and nose. The feet were also deformed, and the fingers and toes were fused.
The girl also suffered from hydrocephalus, due to which her head was greatly enlarged. Doctors did not give her even a few days, but recently Helianni turned three years old and she continues to live.
On walks, she always attracts many glances, and her photos on the Internet always cause heated discussions. The girl is often called various bad words, among which "ugly" and "like from a Picasso painting" are some of the most tolerant. Many are convinced that Helianni's mother would be best served by the doctors and having the same abortion.
But parents believe that no one has the right to decide who should live and who should die. Despite the fact that the girl still needs a lot of operations and has to collect money for them with the help of charitable donations, Soleannis Lugo does not regret that she refused an abortion.
“When they told me that Helianni's anomalies were incompatible with life, I felt very sad because I really wanted to become a mother and already at 4 months old I felt that she was part of me. That day my partner and I cried a lot, and then we decided to save the pregnancy and leave everything in the hands of God,”says the girl's mother.

“She was born with a cleft lip, an undeveloped brain, eyes and nose, and no separate fingers and toes. But she had a chance to live and why not give this opportunity? It was a completely helpless creature, but I loved her immediately with all my heart."
The girl's mother calls the baby the "Paranormal Queen" because the top of her skull with three protrusions looks like a crown.
“I believe that my girl is a real little warrior, for these three years she endured a lot and fought for herself. She was born and survived, despite all her deformities, and therefore we decided to respect her right to life."
The doctors said that even if the girl survives, she will always be a “vegetable”, not reacting to anything. But according to her mother, the girl reacts to external stimuli, especially to conversations with her and to instrumental music, which she really likes.
Parents are well aware that the world will always attack their child, but they also meet many understanding people who support them. They try to ignore negative remarks and at the same time do not want to hide the girl from the world and always carry her with them.
"If we go with her to the supermarket, people there will always stare and whisper at us."
During these three years, Helianni underwent four operations. The first two removed the fluid from the skull, then there was an operation on the posterior lip, and the fourth on the feet. In the future, Helianni's parents want to correct the shape of her skull.
