There are many mysterious places in Russia, the mystery of which many fans of extreme sensations struggle to overcome. Some territories are associated with such eerie legends that it is better to bypass them.
Mountain of the dead
This peak is located in the Sverdlovsk region. It got its eerie name because of the story of the death of tourists from the Dyatlov group in 1959. But even before this incident, the mountain was notorious.
Its original name among the Mansi peoples is Kholatchakhl, which means “Dead Peak”. And the point is not only that the outward surface of the slopes really looks inhospitable - there is almost no vegetation there.
Local shamans believe that spirits live on the mountain and take people away. These dark forces in the past were nine sorcerers who performed evil deeds.
Hence the mystical connection with the number "9". Most often, groups of nine people die. The Dyatlov expedition had the same number.

There is another legend that explains the name of the Dead Peak and its attachment to a certain number. According to legend, 13 thousand years ago there was a powerful flood. Only 11 people managed to escape.
They climbed to the top, but the water gradually came and washed away the people one by one. Only two managed to survive - a man and a woman, who continued the family. The remaining 9 people died.
Demons nose
This is a promontory jutting out on the eastern shore of Lake Onega. In its shape, it really resembles a hooked nose.
The demon was named this place because of the rock carvings - petroglyphs. The largest drawing is similar to a human, but not quite ordinary. The creature 2 m 30 cm in height has a fierce facial expression, an elongated body, a square head, arms raised up with outstretched fingers. The age of the petroglyph is estimated at 5 thousand years. It was he who was called the demon.
When Christian monks arrived here in the 16th century, they tried to neutralize the spirit and painted a cross on top. It is not known whether this helped, but ufologists and esotericists believe that a certain negative energy is still felt in this place. Several nearby points on the map are also marked by demonic behavior: Besikha Island, Besonosovka village.
Kashkulak cave
The cave is located in the north of Khakassia and is considered the most terrible in the world. In ancient times, mysterious rituals were performed at its lowest level. The shamans chose a stalagmite, shaped like a phallus, as their center.
But here they worshiped not only the cult stone, but also the "black devil". Sacrifices were brought to him. Confirmation of this is the traces of an ancient fireplace, next to which the walls are covered with soot, as well as the remains of animals and people.
Thrill-seekers have repeatedly descended into the cave to experience its power on themselves. Someone came back with nothing. But there are cases when people were exposed to massive psychosis and hallucinations.
In the 60s, 20 students decided to explore the cave. Only two girls were able to get out of it. Both showed signs of insanity: incoherent speech, convulsions, aggression. One of the students came out of the cave with a stone figurine and did not want to give it up. The girl died a few days later, although doctors did not find any physical abnormalities in her.
When, in the 80s, scientists decided to investigate the phenomenon of the cave, many of those who visited dreamed of a white shaman beating a tambourine. It was found that this vision could be caused by fluctuations in the electromagnetic field, accompanied by a low frequency sound, inaccessible to human hearing and leading to a change in consciousness. But scientists could not establish in more detail what caused this phenomenon.
Vasyugan swamps
The wetland between the Ob and Irtysh arose almost 10 thousand years ago. Most of the bog was formed over the past 500 years from 19 small bogs united by one water area.
The local people have a legend that the devil created these swamps. When God walked on the earth and scattered the dry land, the unclean one swallowed part of it. But then trees and grasses began to sprout from his belly. Then the devil spat out the swallowed earth. It turned out to be very wet and unsuitable for life.
But on the banks of the swamp, different peoples have long settled, in whose culture there are also legends about local spirits. The most terrible of them is the demon, which has many guises. He can appear in the form of Shelab's seven-winged bear, an eagle with iron plumage, or a huge serpent and kill a person who sees him.
Cape Ryty
Located on the western shore of Lake Baikal. Local residents do not travel to this land. And on the water opposite the cape, equipment often breaks down. Every winter, a crack appears in the ice near the cape, and in the warm season, lightning strikes often hit the ground. And those who ever dared to visit this place soon fell ill or died prematurely.
Shamans believe that the ancient bloodthirsty ruler of Lake Baikal, Ukher-noyon, lived in this area. And now his spirit dwells here, which really does not like being disturbed.
Whale alley
It is located in Chukotka and is considered the remains of an ancient ritual temple. The alley is a platform with pillars made of bowhead whale bones dug into the ground.
Some rows are made of whale skulls, others are made of jaw bones. Also found "meat pits". It is believed that not only shamans, but also whalers liked to gather in this place. They held a feast there over the dead carcasses.
There is a legend that once the whale alley became a battlefield between two flying shamans from different regions - Chukotka and Alaska.
Pleshcheyevo lake
This lake is located near Pereslavl-Zalessky. Several legends are associated with the reservoir. Not far from the coast lies the Xin-stone - a huge boulder weighing 12 tons.
Previously, it served as a place of cult events. But with the advent of Christianity, they tried several times to hide the stone under the ground or drown, but to no avail. The hulk inexplicably returned to its place.
And on the lake itself, tragic events often occur - divers drown. There is a hypothesis that a deep reservoir of karst origin has a double bottom, under which scuba divers fall.
Fog often appears over the lake. Some observers also noticed fireballs above the water.
