The construction of the monument to the Soviet soldier near Rzhev is completed.
Bloody battles took place in this place in 1942-1943, in which about 400 thousand Soviet soldiers died and more than 700 thousand were wounded. It was here that the decision was made to install a large-scale monument. The organizer and author of the works was the Military Historical Society.
The funds were collected by residents of Russia and labor collectives; the Union State of Russia and Belarus also took part. The opening of the monument, which embodied the words of the famous song of Mark Bernes to the words of Rasul Gamzatov, will take place on June 30.
19 works were sent from Moscow, Moscow region, Novosibirsk, Belgorod, Bryansk, Irkutsk and Belarus. The organizing committee chose the project, the authors of which are sculptor Andrei Korobtsov from Belgorod and architect Konstantin Fomin from Electrostal near Moscow.
