Demerdzhi: brave Maria and revived ghosts
Crimean mountain Demerdzhi, located near the resort town of Alushta, is considered one of the most mystical places on the peninsula. You can see it on the way from Simferopol, you will recognize it by the rock that stands out towards the sea, resembling a woman's head. You may be told that this rock is named after Catherine II. But the legend says that the name of the girl of the mistress of the petrified head is Maria
As you can imagine, it was a very, very long time ago. And in those ancient times he lived on the present Mount Demerdzhi, which was then called Fura (Fiery), an evil blacksmith. Day and night he forged weapons of very strong steel in his infernal forge. The forge smoked and killed all living things around.
The locals begged the blacksmith to stop, but only laughed at them and killed the negotiators who approached him with this proposal. And then one day a girl named Maria went to the blacksmith. She liked the villain and he planned to make her his captive. But the girl harshly rejected the blacksmith, she pushed him into the fire, and he scorched his hair and beard. The blacksmith got angry and killed the beauty. At that moment, the old mountain collapsed, destroying both the forge and its terrible forge. And in the morning, people saw a completely different mountain, giant bizarre stones froze on it (the Valley of Ghosts) and a rock appeared in the form of a woman's head, in memory of the brave and mountainous Mary, brutally murdered by the villain.
They say that the Valley of Ghosts on Mount Demerdzhi is completely transformed in the fog. People who believe in the supernatural claim that there is a portal in this mountain, from where other entities enter our world. Not so long ago, on one of the Russian channels, a story was released that tourists from Krasnodar managed to photograph a ghost in the Valley of the Ghost.
The guys said that they felt someone's presence in the mountains, heard sounds and saw shadows. And one day the outline of a man appeared at their tent. They tried to take a picture, but its contours began to disappear, only its smoky silhouette was captured.

The official legend of the mountain is well known. There are several versions. In general, this was when the big bears were in command of the Crimea. And then one day they found the wreckage of a ship on the seashore, and next to them a little girl. They raised her and became very attached to her. But the girl grew up, and one fine day they found a boat washed ashore, and in it a handsome haggard young man. In secret from the bears, she left him, and as you understand, she fell head over heels in love with him. The couple decided to run away, they got into the boat and swam. The bears could not stand this, their leader decided to drink the sea, so that the boat of lovers ran aground. The sea was shallow, and the girl, to distract the bear, began to sing a beautiful song. The bear listened, so it froze forever, turned to stone, turned into the Bear Mountain. And the lovers swam for themselves.
In another version, a young man turned into a stone bear, whose bride was taken prisoner by the Turks. The groom, trying to stop them, wanted to drink the sea, but the task turned out to be unbearable, and he turned to stone with grief
Kara-Dag: Gullible Cyclops and Giant Snake
Many interesting legends are also associated with the Kara-Dag (Black Mountain) mountain range glorified by Maximilian Voloshin, at the foot of which is the romantic Koktebel.
Of course, it's worth starting with the story of the evil cannibal Cyclops, who lived on this mountain for a very long time and terrorized the local residents. The giant demanded not only animals, but also beautiful girls: he had such a habit of "getting married" every September. And then one day one daredevil went to the Kara-Dag mountain in the fall and sang a song about love, so beautifully that the Cyclops climbed out of his cave and listened. And the young man told him: Do you want, you vile monster, love to see Cyclops took and agreed. The next day the young man brought his beautiful bride to the mountain. The girl shouted: "Giant, look at me and I will show you love!" The stupid Cyclops opened his one eye, and the guy shot a poisonous arrow in his eye. The poisoned giant died in his cave in the morning, and the Black Mountain collapsed instead of jagged rocks.
The second Crimean legend about Kara-Dag tells about a righteous man who lived in a society of proud people who imagined themselves to be gods. The old man tried in vain to urge people to humility, and in the end, he was simply stoned. The gods were angry with people and sent a downpour that washed away the entire settlement of the proud sea. The rain stopped only when the body of the old man was buried at the top of the mountain
The most famous modern legend associated with Kara-Dag is, of course, the stories about the sea monster, a giant snake that can be seen from the mountain. The sailors claim that they saw him on this topic, many articles were written and many television stories were shot.
From the locals, you can still hear the story that in Soviet times, experiments on dolphins were carried out in these places for military purposes, they were allegedly used to make "living bombs" to detonate enemy submarines and ships.
