Even a small town has mysterious places about which people talk in whispers, and some are baptized at the same time.
Almost every city has places with mysterious stories. Either they see the dead there at night, then unknown people look in the mirrors, or objects move in a strange way. Ussuriysk was not without mysticism. For example, on the site of the former cemetery, where the MZhK now stands, residents hear heartbreaking screams and stomping, and in the area of the Seven Winds there is a house that is popularly called cursed … Guides of the city museum told a lot about familiar streets and buildings, and UssurMedia organized a virtual tour for readers.
Monster of the Park "Green Island"
Local residents say that at night a uterine animal roar can be heard from the park. And once a corpse of a torn cow was found on the shore, after which the public started talking about the "monsters" that have lived here since the beginning of the 20th century.
And the story is this: in 1911, a circus troupe arrived in Nikolsk-Ussuriisk. Here is what they wrote about it in the newspapers: “Today we are presented with a super luxurious program. Wonderful freaks from all over the world will amuse Nikolsk-Ussuri residents. There is here the world's largest woman weighing 20 pounds, and the thinnest man with a height of five yards. But two individuals of different sexes are of greater interest. They are half-monkeys, half-humans. In appearance, they are similar to monkeys, for they have hair all over their body. At the same time, the monsters know how to express themselves in French and dance the Viennese waltz ….
The attraction was so popular among residents that Ivan Yurgenson himself, the founder of the Green Island park, mentioned it. He inquired from the trainer about the monkey people caught in the forests of the Amazon. They say they resigned themselves to fate, stopped rushing at people and choking chickens.
But two days before the expected departure, the couple broke the bars and fled into the thicket of the park. The police rushed to search, but they were unsuccessful. Soon, the local residents began to disappear chickens and geese from the yards, and in the dark, vacationers walking along the paths of the park met “hairy people, strange appearance, without trousers”. The public insisted on a raid. And animals of human appearance ceased to declare their existence.

Ghost MZhK
On the site of the Ussuriysk MZhK, there was once a cemetery, with which, as old-timers say, one terrible story is connected. Even before the revolution, a rich merchant lived in Nikolsk-Ussuriisk. One day he died, and, as expected, he was buried with honors in this cemetery. But the next night the watchman heard a screeching sound from the grave. The grave was opened, the coffin was opened and it was found that the corpse was lying on its stomach, and his face was distorted by a grimace of horror. “Buried alive,” the doctors stated, and rumors spread throughout the city that the merchant was a sorcerer.
After that, at the cemetery, atrocities began: someone at night frightened the dogs with inhuman howls. People were forbidden to go to the cemetery. And soon the churchyard decayed, and after a while the gravestones were demolished and a modern combine was built here.
But the mysterious events did not stop. Sometimes in the houses of local residents, dishes suddenly fall from the shelves, unknown faces look from the mirrors, and at night screams and stomps are heard …
The living dead of the crypt on Krasnoznamennaya street
Despite the fact that the cemetery was demolished, some objects have survived to this day. So in one of the courtyards there is a crypt in which the locals built a barn. There was also a crypt in the courtyard of two barracks located across the street from MZhK, which had been demolished recently.
From time to time people from the windows noticed the vague outlines of two women in white, who came out of the crypt and returned in the morning back. It was rumored that they were controlled by one of the old women who lived in the barracks. Now there is no crypt, there are no houses themselves, people have been resettled, and it is not known whether the Ussurians will still see "women in white".
Secret passages of Nekrasov street
During the years of its foundation, Nekrasov Street was named after the famous explorer of the Far East, Governor-General of the Primorsky Territory, owner of almost all state awards of the Russian Empire at the beginning of the 20th century - Peter Unterberg. It is noteworthy that it was not a privileged street, although the party "elite" preferred to settle on it. It began to turn into the main street only in the 1920s.
There is a rumor about her that Nekrasov Street has been dug with underground passages leading to the detention center. As if they had discovered part of a tunnel lined with stones when a new house was being built.
