The young man, Granger Taylor, was a self-taught mechanical genius. He dropped out of school in eighth grade, but at the age of only fourteen he built a one-cylinder car, which is now on display at the Duncan Forestry Museum, along with a steam locomotive that he pulled from the forest and rebuilt. At seventeen, he overhauled a bulldozer that no one could fix. He built a replica of a World War II fighter that was stolen by a collector for $ 20,000.
Granger has always wondered how the Flying Saucer was powered. As an inspiration, he created his own from two satellite dishes, one upper and one lower. His "flying saucer" became a home away from home with a sofa, TV and wood-burning stove. He often slept in his "spaceship".

He later said that he was communicating with aliens who were going to show him how their technology works. He told everyone that he was going on a trip in an alien spaceship. One night in November 1980, he disappeared and left a note to his family. To this day, despite investigation, he has never been found and they have not found any possible clues as to his whereabouts.
The Granger case is undoubtedly a great Canadian mystery. Of course, a man with his obvious mechanical abilities would not have gone unnoticed if he had simply slipped away at night. After a four-year investigation, the authorities have never indicated where he might be.
