The authorities of the American state of Washington allowed the bodies of deceased people to be used as fertilizer. It is reported by BBC News. State Governor Jay Inslee signed the bill into law on Tuesday, May 21. According to the document, composting is seen as an alternative to standard burial or cremation: the body of the deceased is placed in a hexagonal steel container filled with alfalfa, sawdust and straw.

After that, the container is tightly closed, and within 30 days the body decomposes naturally. Then the relatives of the deceased can use the resulting fertilizer in gardening. This method is recognized as harmless to the environment. Besides Washington, it is also legalized in Sweden. In 2015, it was reported that obesity was identified by funeral workers in Scotland as a major funeral problem. According to them, there are more and more coffins that do not pass through the doors of the cremation ovens. Because of the impossibility of burning the dead, they try to bury them.
