Russian scientists call on the world community to conduct a comprehensive study of the Labynkyr karst lake, located in the east of Yakutia, not far from the world famous Oymyakon.

Underwater radars recorded a large mobile object about 10 m in length in it. It is supposed to be a living being. From the British it has already received the name "Nesski".

Lyudmila Emelyanova, associate professor at Moscow State University, told the Siberian Times (yes, there is such a newspaper) that a scientific expedition discovered “several very large underwater objects” in the lake. “It was our fourth or fifth day at the lake when the echo sounders recorded a huge object in the water right below our boat. The object was very dense, homogeneous structure, obviously neither a fish nor a fish school, and was above the bottom,”she noted.

“I was very surprised, but not shocked, because we did not see the creature itself, but only registered a strange object in the water,” the expert continues. "But as a scientist, I can clearly say: I don't even guess what kind of object it was."

Meanwhile, every day the history of the Yakut "Nesski" acquires new details. So, according to the testimony of two fishermen, once the bow of their 10-meter boat began to rise, as if someone was pushing it from under the water. Since it was a heavy boat, only a huge and strong animal could do this. The fishermen were numb with fear. But at the same time, they saw nothing: neither the head nor the jaws.

It is curious that the Evenks and Yakuts living in those parts have long declared the existence of an underwater monster in the lake, often called the "lake devil". “Personally, I think that when information about something strange has been circulating among the local population for many years, it simply cannot be unfounded, it means that there is something here,” said Dr. Yemelyanova. "I know the locals very well: they are simple-minded, but truthful."

Another unusual fact happened to a group of geologists who were fishing on the lake from a boat. Seeing the huge head of some creature, the fishermen raised a cry. Their colleagues on the shore opened fire with rifles, but the creature was too far away.

Despite its proximity to the "cold pole", the lake does not freeze completely in winter. On this score, there is much speculation that the lake is inhabited by ichthyosaurs, prehistoric marine reptiles that need to breathe. Therefore, they maintain polynyas on the lake. Another version says that there are killer whales in the lake, which appeared there when it was part of the sea. Some have even allegedly heard that the "creature" makes a hideous primal cry when it attacks its victim.

“I think that there is some kind of mystery in this lake, because there is no smoke without fire,” Emelyanova sums up.
