Can a sports car be a firefighter? A luxury convertible with a modified engine? This may seem incredible if it were not for accurate information to the contrary. Meet the Horch 853 Sport Cabriolet Brno-Komin by T. Lepil.
The luxury Horch 853 was produced in 1937-40. It was this car that was the last in this class of "Horch". The wide range of body styles included, of course, the convertible. And not just, but "sporty". The engine of the car was one hundred l / s, eight-cylinder V-shaped, and allowed "853" to accelerate to one hundred and forty km / h.
And then - World War II with well-known consequences. A huge amount of all kinds of equipment was exported from Germany to various countries. And such excellent cars as the Horch 853 were in great demand. So, at the end of autumn 1945, the most luxurious "ferry" sports cabriolet was taken out to Czechoslovak Brno.
But this "853" did not fall into private hands, not to the minister or military commander. And to the fire department of Brno-Komin. And there, the firefighters decided to remake it to fit their needs: for quick delivery of personnel to the place of fires. They decided to entrust the order of the body modification to professionals - the Lepil bureau from Rasnov. The terms of reference of the project included the possibility of transporting six people, the necessary equipment and two long hoses.
The revision took almost three years, but from 1949 to 1960, this car faithfully served in the fire department, arriving at the site before anyone else. After the decommissioning "Horch" was sent to a distant garage, where at the beginning of the two thousandth, rusty and covered with dust, lovers of old and unusual cars found it and bought it. Today, refurbished and brilliant, he is a permanent participant in many exhibitions and races of retro cars.
