The most intriguing secrets always come from the most ancient times …

Around 5500-4000 BC in the territory where modern Iraq is now located, there was an ancient civilization. It is known as the Ubeid culture. This was the very first civilization in Mesopotamia. And it was she who is believed to have laid the foundation for the civilization of the Sumerians.

Among the ruins and various intriguing artifacts left behind by this once great culture, a very diverse assortment of apparently strange ancient figurines has been found. They are unique in that they depict humanoids with reptile heads. These creatures have both male and female characteristics. They often have shoulder pads. They have hats or helmets. And they are presented in various poses holding various objects. Such as, for example, poles and sceptres. And in the case of female figures, they have babies sucking on the breast. Which are also similar to lizards, like their mothers. The figures are unlike anything else found in this region. The creatures depicted have elongated heads, pointed muzzles and oblique almond-shaped eyes. These are clearly not people. And they show mostly reptilian traits.

The strange art of the ancient people

What does science think about this? It was originally thought to be simply stylized images of the gods worshiped by ancient people. Which in itself is not unusual. Since there were many cultures on Earth that worshiped snakes and reptile deities, including the Sumerians themselves. However, later archaeologists and historians questioned this version. One reason for doubt is that the figurines don't actually have fancy clothes. Which might well be expected if they were omnipotent gods. Another reason is that the postures in which creatures, including babies, are completely mundane. They do not involve any kind of ceremony or religious practice.

It seems that the ancient figurines are not part of the religious culture. But at the same time, they were very important for those who created them. Therefore, the question arises - if these creatures were not worshiped as gods, then why did this 7000-year-old civilization even make all these carefully crafted figures of humanoid reptilian creatures? The answer to this question will largely depend on who you ask.

Reptilians from other planets

One hypothesis claims that these were just decorative objects or abstract works of art. And the resemblance to reptilian humanoids is just a casual or aesthetic design. And yet it is not clear why, in this case, make so many figures with practically the same creatures, clothes and objects? There is also the idea that the Ubeid culture may have practiced some form of body modification. Such as, for example, elongation of the skull. Such facts have been noted in some other cultures of the world. And, perhaps, the figurines are just images of these people. But if so, why did they do it?

It is also believed that these findings represent some kind of hoax. And they were simply thrown into the places of their finds. However, the analysis carried out dates the statuettes as indeed belonging to the Ubaid culture.

Another hypothesis. It lies in the fact that the figures can represent some kind of real race of aliens. Which in appearance resemble reptiles. So maybe the Earth was really visited by a race of humanoid reptiles in ancient times? And we found images of ancient alien guests?

In fact, there is no way to find out why the Ubeid culture made such figurines. And we can only guess what these findings really mean …
