Video: The paradox of choice | Barry Schwartz 2024, May

Now it is already difficult to make out where the first phrases came from about what to poison ("drink", "smoke") or not to poison themselves is a personal choice of each person, because they pour literally from all possible sources, starting with the lessons of negative prevention in the course OBZH, ending with the arguments of famous people in popular programs. This slogan becomes one of the main ones for renouncing any facts showing the real reasons for the self-poisoning of the peoples of Russia with alcohol and tobacco, their consequences, etc.

Such a delusion makes a person assert himself that self-poisoning is his personal choice and makes it difficult for him to free himself from it. The most frightening misconception is when adults serve it to children. They say that poisoning is the choice of an adult, a conscious person, which makes poisoning even more attractive, which makes the problem of childhood and adolescent self-poisoning by alcohol and tobacco becoming more and more threatening.

How does this so-called choice come about?

Choice without choice. To begin with, in order for the choice to be objective, it is necessary that the person has no prejudices in this matter. However, when choosing to poison or not to poison, there is no such choice.

Already by the age of 5-6, children have formed a positive attitude towards alcohol and tobacco, they saw poisoning adults (their beloved parents, relatives, kind uncles and aunts) at the holiday. Confirmation of this thesis is an experiment in kindergarten: when children are asked to show a holiday: with the help of pins and cubes, they completely repeat all drinking rituals, and also clearly show the consequences of self-poisoning, which they saw at the holiday. We saw intoxicants in grocery stores next to bread, sweets and ice cream, which is why, on a subconscious level, children begin to associate intoxicants with food and transfer the properties of food (taste, quality, benefits, etc.) to intoxicants.

By the age of 11-14 (the average age of exposure to alcohol and tobacco poisoning), in addition to a positive attitude, adolescents have already formed many false stereotypes about in what situations they need to poison themselves with one or another intoxicant (holidays, stress, weekends, changes, etc..); what emotions to experience (relaxation, joy, fearlessness, etc.); what properties of intoxicants have (strengthen immunity, help to reduce weight, etc.); what kind of intoxicants to use and how to do it (“smoke” to the filter or throw it in half; poison yourself with stoppers or glasses, etc.).

This false information is laid down through the media, films (a series of films "Features of the national …"), TV series (university), songs (Come on …), books, objects (children's dishes with utensils for self-poisoning, T-shirts, baby champagne). With the active participation of authoritative personalities (Rosenbaum, Boyarsky, Brun, etc.), science, etc.

The wrong choice. Moreover, when submitting all this information, there is no real choice between the natural state of Sobriety and self-poisoning. There is a huge mistake in the federal laws of the Russian Federation that alcohol is food, there is no such law about tobacco, but it is considered a food product by default, since it is sold along with food. This allows attention to be drawn to a false choice:

  • To poison oneself in moderation or without measure, while a positive attitude by all possible means is inculcated into moderate and cultural self-poisoning, and all the negative is poured out on alcoholics, as well as Teetotalers, who are hushed up, humiliated, ranked as abnormal in all possible ways. Although the real choice is this: a sober natural state or self-poisoning, degradation, self-destruction (at different rates)
  • Poison with high-quality intoxicants or low-quality ones. All attention is also riveted on "quality intoxicants". The real choice is between: it is expensive or cheap to poison, because the active substance is the same in both cases.

Thus, when communicating with a person who poisons himself with alcohol, tobacco and other poisons, it should be remembered that this is not his fault, since he was put before knowingly losing options with the help of lies. However, this person bears the full burden of bitterness and problems associated with self-poisoning.
