“Before the flight, I made a rite of offering to Baikal and other spirits,” says Valentin EFREMOV. - I spoke to the spirit of the lake, greeted him. He threw bread into the water, spilled wine on four sides. And he asked the god of all winds Ukher, who according to legend lives on Cape Ryty, to send us Sarma. It usually blows exactly in the direction where we were going to fly.
On the day of departure, September 10, the required wind was waited for 3 hours. Finally at about 11 am Sarma blew out. They took off.
An hour and a half later, the travelers found themselves in a zone similar to turbulence. It was over the middle of Lake Baikal at an altitude of 3400 m.
“It was as if we were faced with an invisible wall,” recalls Valentine. - I was not afraid, only surprised. An incomprehensible force seemed to throw us back, while lifting us higher and higher. The ball quickly revolved around its axis and rapidly rose upward. It is very dangerous. When exiting such an air tube, the shell of the ball can collapse, and then a crash will occur. Our devices were out of order, the radio refused. The escort helicopter circled nearby, but the crew could not shout to us. GPS showed communication failure. Of all the electronics, only the altitude device worked.
As a result, the ball was carried back and thrown to a height of 5 km!

“The same situation was described by the aeronauts of the tsarist army, who tried to conquer Baikal 100 years ago,” Valentin admits. - They told how they collided with an invisible wall, they were turned and lifted up. As a result, they could not fly over the lake. The immersion of Soviet submariners in this place ended even worse. At a depth of 50 m, they saw a 3-meter white figure. They tried to touch, but they were thrown to the surface with force. Scuba divers died due to pressure drop. The helicopter flight in this area ended just as sadly 2 years ago. In 2005, the Mi-2 seemed to stumble upon an incomprehensible wall of air, it was dragged up. As a result, the helicopter lost control and crashed into Baikal near Cape Ryty. And now the situation repeated itself with us! There was nothing to do but pray to all the gods again. I started asking Sarma to help us.
The pillar is the center of the lake
Finally, a fair wind carried the ball forward again. The aeronautics seemed to have jumped over the Baikal tornado at an altitude of 5000 m. But the difficulties did not end.
“We spent 3 hours choosing a landing site,” recalls Valentin. - We somehow landed on a hill with huge boulders. I have never had such a hard landing in my life!
The ball was dragged over the stones at a speed of 100 m. The basket almost collapsed, the gas cylinders tore off. Fortunately, the travelers escaped with cuts.
- But there is something to remember, - says Valentine. - From a height of 5 km, I saw Baikal and realized that it is not a simple accumulation of water. This is a source of the strongest energy and the purest information. The energy pillar that we met is the center of Baikal.
The balloonists landed south of the village of Turka. In 6 hours they covered about 100 km.
