The mythical ancient civilization called Hyperborea or Arctida could really exist. The existence of Hyperborea is not confirmed by science, however, many historians and philosophers of antiquity from Hesiod to Nostradamus wrote about a highly developed civilization living on the Arctic continent. In our time, researchers found traces of Hyperborea in the Murmansk region, on the Kola Peninsula and Taimyr.

Hyperborea is covered with many legends. Some historians consider Arctida the foremother of all world culture and the ancestral home of the Slavic peoples. In the past, a very favorable subtropical climate reigned on these lands, which attracted prominent minds. It is believed that the Hyperboreans were in constant contact with the Greeks and Romans.

Legends say that Hyperborea existed 15-20 thousand years ago. At that time, ridges rose above the surface of the Arctic Ocean, the water was warm and not bound by ice. There are several versions of the death of civilization. According to one of them, the Hyperboreans migrated south due to climate change. According to Plato, Hyperborea ceased to exist as a result of a destructive war with another powerful power - Atlantis.

Only real traces left on the ground, monuments, artifacts and ancient maps can confirm the existence of the disappeared continent. It is worth noting that there is such evidence. In 1595, the English navigator Gerard Mercator published a map, apparently based on some ancient knowledge. It depicts the coast of the North Ocean with the legendary Arctida in the middle. The mainland looked like an archipelago of several islands, divided by wide straits.

The Russian expedition of Alexander Barchenko in 1922 found on the Kola Peninsula a heaped manhole and skillfully cut stones oriented to the cardinal points. The age of the finds, according to scientists, belonged to an even more ancient period than the Egyptian civilization. No less interesting finds have been made in our time.
