In Kerch, during the construction of a highway to the Crimean bridge, archaeologists found traces of the Bosporus kingdom.

- Archaeological research is being carried out simultaneously on several sections of the future route. At one of them, specialists are examining a section of the Tiritak shaft - one of the defensive lines of the eastern part of the Bosporus kingdom, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Crimea reports. - A vast area of this structure has already been discovered, its construction is being studied in detail for the first time.

Archaeologists have unearthed crepida - a retaining wall of a rampart made of earth and stone, as well as a deep ditch. Presumably, the studied section of the rampart dates back to the 4th-3rd centuries BC.

- At another site, archaeologists are examining an ancient burial complex, in which there are several burials. They belong to different periods of the ancient history of the Bosporus. - specified in the department.

The area is being examined by specialists from the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Their task is to find and preserve historical monuments that can be found on the territory where the road will pass. Only after the archaeologists finish work on the next site, it is handed over to workers for construction and installation work.

Archaeological excavations will continue for another two months.

The Bosporan Kingdom is an ancient state that existed on the territory of the eastern Crimea. Formed around 480 BC. e. as a result of the unification of Greek cities on the Kerch and Taman peninsulas. The capital is Panticapaeum.

It reached its greatest power in the 4th century. BC e., its territory covered the entire Kerch Peninsula to Feodosia inclusive, the Taman Peninsula up to modern Novorossiysk, the lower course of the Kuban, the mouth of the Don.
