Devil's settlement is located near the town of Kozelsk in the Kaluga region, on the territory of the Ugra national park. Numerous tourists come here in order to look at the mysterious huge stones, which in an incomprehensible way ended up in these places. These stones caused surprise in the past centuries, and even then it was believed that these are the remains of some ancient structure.
Here is what Hieromonk Leonid wrote in 1876 in his book "History of the Church within the Present Kaluga Region":
“Not far from the ancient Rzhavets, in the wilderness of the forest, there is a wonderful place - these are the ruins of some historical building, for which stones of enormous size were consumed, apparently taken from afar, because there are no stone breaks near. The building was covered over a large area and lined up to half the windows; the same large stones lie around at a considerable distance, and some of them are scattered in one direction, on the way to the building from the field. The antiquity of this building is evidenced by the centuries-old trees growing inside it, and the walls overgrown with moss for a long time. The popular imagination inhabits this mysterious place with spirits, calling it "Devil's settlement".

The road went at first as an ordinary dense forest, then a valley with a moat below opened up in front of us, and after that a steep ascent to a high mountain, along which quite large trees grow. On the way up the mountain we began to come across stones of extraordinary size. Climbing, or rather climbing higher uphill, on its cliff we saw a large stone wall. overgrown with moss on the sides with trees above. At first glance, it is clear that this building has existed since time immemorial, and now only a semblance of some kind of scrap remains.
The wall is made of huge stones. On the right side of this wall, something like a porch appears. Under the house itself, or rather, the wall, there is a cave with two exits. of which one, according to legend, goes to the Good Monastery, which is near the town of Likhvin.
The very place where this building is located in the wilderness, away from housing, except for the forest gatehouses. When inspecting the “settlement”, he involuntarily takes thought and bewilderment, as soon as it was possible to build a wall of stones, from which it seems that a thousand people are not able to lift, so they amaze with their incredible size. The same stones are scattered in disorder near the wall itself … Anyone who has examined this settlement will come to that conclusion. that to build this building of huge stones is beyond human strength.
It is also impossible to assume anything native either, because it is clear that the structure was made with the help of artificial forces."
Here, among other things, the mention of underground passages is interesting - they say that somewhere here the famous robber Kudeyar hid his treasure. But the most interesting thing is that many stones show smooth round holes made in an unknown way and with an incomprehensible purpose.
